Question about Gateway GT4010 (RBGT4010) PC Desktop
The processor is located under the large fan that is attached to the heatsink (large aluminum cooling device). The fan/heatsink will be located on the board itself, so it's pretty easy to locate. You should just need a flat head screw driver to unlatch the headsink from the board (be very careful not to slip, there should be a small piece of metal on the clip to secure the screw driver as you press down to unlatch it). Another thing to take a look at is the power supply. Just because the power supply turns on doesn't mean it's supplying enough power. Try going to the store (even walmart) and picking up a new power supply. the wattage of your old power supply (PSU) will be listed someplace on the side of the PSU inside the case. You probably have between a 300 - 400 watt power supply. If you can't find the number, try picking up a 350w power supply. It should take you no more than 5 minutes to unplug the cords of the old one and plug in the cords of the new one. You literally can just set the new one beside the computer and plug the new cords in, no need to completely install it. If this doesn't help, then you've ruled out a power supply failure. As long as you've kept your receipt pretty much any store will return it for cash. If this doesn't work you can pick up a replacement processor for your system pretty cheap off ebay. If it does turn out to be a processor, put some consideration into upgrading to a faster processor. Your system has a amd athlon 64 3400 inside currently, you can purchase atleast a 3800+ instead and make it faster. Good luck Peter
