Question about Toshiba 32A33 32" TV

1 Answer

Toshiba TV picture has shifted high

I have an old but very faithful Toshiba TV, CX2779K, that has a picture that recently shifted upward and now cuts off about 1 inch of the top of the picture. Otherwise it functions properly. I tried to do a reset to original factory settings which helped a little. I also adjusted the set's controls with no benefit. Can this be corrected easily or do I need to start looking for a new TV? I love this one and would like to keep it a while longer. Dean

Re: Toshiba TV picture has shifted high

If it cannot be adjusted then there is a problem in tv. your problem is in vertical output circuit Can this be corrected easily ? yes or do I need to start looking for a new TV? I love this one and would like to keep it a while longer. not to look for new will keep it for longer that has a picture that recently shifted upward and now cuts off about 1 inch of the top of the picture. Otherwise it functions properly. your problem is in vertical output circuit please check 1loose contact in vertical output section 2 capacitor defective in v/output. it is a common problem. it is a not a major problem. if you are not tech person get it done by skilled tech. hope this will help.

Hello, I have a Toshiba 27AF45C television. The problem I am having is that the image on the screen is shifted over to the left, cutting off the picture and not giving the full view. I was just wondering...

Horizontal 'Shift' is the problem to your TV. There are so many causes to this fault. Must troubleshoot from horizontal output section to video IF section. The main board has the trouble. If you can get its mainboard as card basis at your town, it will be best to replace it as card basis.
This is the picture of the main baord.

if you have already adjusted the focus pot on the line o/p transformer (a small transformer with a lead that has a plastic cap attached , and is typically clamped onto the top of the crt/tube BE CAREFUL DONT TOUCH CAP WHEN TV ON VERY HIGH VOLTAGES)
also could be your crt/tube is bad if so then scrap/recycle

Sounds like your high voltage section, or your main power supply is shot. DO NOT OPEN THE BACK OF YOUR TV.

The chassis of the TV ( any metal inside the plastic outer shell ) is Electrically HOT ! The High voltage section has upwards of 30,000 ( thirty thousand ) volts running to the picture DON'T TOUCH ANYTHING.

THe Humming noise is the TV Drawing a lot of current and trying to work. Don't continue to let it try or it will be an even more expensive fix....pull the plug !!

  • "The picture could condense to very thin and then go back to orginal size"......this means that the vertical high voltage section was collapsing (the high voltage for this part of the picture has failed ) and coming back ( normal picture )........this means that some part in the HV section was on its last legs. Now it has no legs.
Best thing you could do is take it to a shop. I have a 32" JVC of the same era and love it. It has given me no problems at all, and even though the price of a new "Tube" TV is extremely low, the picture quality isnt anywhere near as good as your old JVC. Personally, I would at least get an estimate to repair. Good luck....Rob

Picture shifted and ghost image

Try using an input other than the tuner. I.e a DVD player or game system on the front inputs. If the picture looks OK on the other input, your tuner is damaged and will need replaced, if it looks bad also, try unplugging the TV for 5 minutes and then go through the setup process in the menus. If this fails seek a repair shop.
