Drum turns hard after holding start button down and has a loud hum

does it make noise like the motor is running but the belt is not attached? or does it hum and stop after you let go of the start button ?
lets assume it hums... open the door you will see a little button for the door switch, hold that down and have someone else press and hold the start button, CAREFULLY spin the drum clockwise if the drum spins on its own then you will need a new motor and probably a blower cause typically you have to break them off and i mean break all the way down to the stem just so you can take the motor off, atleast thats the way i did it after trying the other way and needing stitches.
if the motor sounds like its running but the drum doest turn, you will probably need a new belt.
lastly if you press the start button and nothing happens, check for voltage, second check door switch, next check for continuity with a multimeter at the thermal fuse, with the wires disconnected from the thermal fuse.

f you hear the motor humming and not starting at all it most likely has a severe friction problem with the drum or motor. It could possibly have some type of garment jamming the blower wheel preventing the motor from starting too.

Open the dryer door and manually rotate the dryer drum counter clockwise (CCW). It should take very little effort to rotate the drum. If it's hard to rotate that could explain why the motor hums instead of starting up. If it turns freely, shut the door and see if will start. If it still hums and not start it may have bad motor or a low voltage supply to the motor.

Check to see if the drum will turn by hand. If so, leave the door open but push the light switch button down and start the unit. Once you hear the humming sound, manually turn the drum with your hand to start. If the drum turns normally, you have a bad motor and needs to be replaced. If the drum does not turn, something is jamming the motor and needs to be disassembled and inspected.

It sounds like you have a blown motot try holding down the door switch and push start and turn drum at same time see if it kicks in

the humming is coming from the motor,if you can spin the drum by hand and it moves freely you need to replace the motor,if it's hard to move you need to take the dryer apart to see why it's hanging up,the overload resets on the motor that's why after a while you'll hear the hum again,if you hold the button to long you'll pop the overload

the humming noise is from the motor,see if you can spin the drum by hand,if it moves you have a bad motor,if it's hard to turn you could have something stuck in the blower wheel or the belt is jammed somewhere,the blower wheel is behind the duct that the lint filter slides into

look on The back of the dryer. If their isn't a removeable back panel then lay dryer down and look inside for the belt or pulleys. One or both are probably bad.

Sounds like a bad motor to me. If you hold down the start button and hums while its pressed its the motor. Depending on how old it is should determine your decision of whether or not to have it fixed. Hope this helps...

Your glides are brobably broken and missing. This will make the drum hard to turn and bind the motor. Get the front off the dryer:
Start by popping the top with a putty knife.
Get the screws out that hold the front on and take a look:
