Don't listen to this guy. First cotton is organic(which means it comes from a plant)and will create tiny scratches. Use microfiber or a synthetic cleaning cloth.

Re: avic N2

Ok! that is sensitive to open it! FIRST clean the sensors under the cd plate! SECOND clean the laser lens. your cleaning method is to get a 100% cotton then clean all sensors and laser lens at clockwise motion!

The nav discs come in a set of two. Disc 1 and Disc 2. Insert disc 1 first, if unit does not respond or read nav disc, then you may have a bad copy of the nav disc or incorrect copy.

Mechanism error

If your unit is still making noise like it is trying to eject, then give it a little help by using a tweezer to pull the disc out after you pressed eject. Then clean the eject's mechanism rollers by using a couple of Q-tips and alcohol. Stick the slightly wet Q-tip into the center of the disc player slot until you reach the rollers after that slide it against the rollers from side to side, when you do that the sliding switches will trigger the eject mechanism and the rollers will start to roll. After afew times change the Q-tip and repeat. Allow 10-15 minutes for it to dry out completly. It should work after that. But if your unit is making clicking sounds or no sound at all right now and it display mechanical error message, then you have deep mechanical problems. There are services on Ebay for about $100, contact Rick for service. He own SAME DAY AUDIO SERVICES, he is very reliable. You can call me too:801-414-4566. Good luck.

You need to get an up to date navi disc. There is a procedure to down grade it, so it would read the yellow disc. But it will mess up the unit if you do it wrong. Beside half of the current info won't be on the yellow disc anyway, because it is so out dated. Goodluck.

AVIC-N1 "disc read error"

The laser eye need to be re-align or clean up. If you are technical incline, then open it up and clean the laser eye and turn the mounting allen wrench nuts up a bit. If not have someone who knows do it. 'Cause there are alot of things can pop out of place when you opened it. Goodluck.

Avic-n2 won't read the navigation disks...

If it play cd's but not not dvd's or navi disc then your laser is "tired" or out of alignment. If it does not play any type of disc then it needs a new laser pick unit. A capable tech should be able to re-align or replace the laser pick up unit for about $75 to $150. Contact me if you need it perfome. My number is 801-414-4566.

What kind of error message? Sound like you have a "tired"(miss aligned laser). If you be more specific and describe the details of your problem, I think I can help.
