Question about Acer Aspire 5100-5033 Notebook

1 Answer

Touchpad button loose

The left button under the touchpad on my Aspire 5100 is coming pretty loose. Is there any quick fix to this or does the laptop need to be disassembled and the key replaced? I have lots of experience with desktops but have never completely opened up a laptop. thanks you for all suggestions and help!

not only did my acer 5100 left button become loose-- now it is not working. And I cannot get any mouses to work. When I called their tech support, of course they said they cannot support any 3rd party. that is not all, I also have no sound after checking device manager and all other fixes. There seems to be no reason for these problems. I have not had this for a year. the pc this replace i got in 2001, so I am not careless.

I shouldnt think that opening it up is necessary. The button should click back in with a gentle nudge. Else it is broken and needs to be replaced. If you can take it out completely and examine it you will know if it is broken.

Touch pad not working

It is possible that the micro switch underneath the button is defective. If this is the case, then the laptop ,(if still under warranty),should be returned to the manufacturer for repair. Otherwise, a new motherboard will be required as the micro switches cannot be replaced.

Acer laptop keyboard and touchpad not working Have had the acer aspire 5100 laptop for two years. Would not boot up. Sent to have fixed under warrany. Came back the boot up was fixed but now the keyboard...

The Acer service centre have probably not connected the keyboard and touchpad to the motherboard. Common mistake by Acer. It is best to send it back to Acer to have it fixed under warranty as if you try it yourself, the laptop could be rendered out of warranty. Good luck... :)

Touchpad on acer aspire 5100 series is locked

plug in a usb mouse, go to control panel>system>harware>device manager and click on the + sign next to pointing devices. Right click the touchpad and click on uninstall. Reboot the laptop and unplug the usb mouse. This should pick up the touchpad as new hardware and reinstall it. Hopefully this will resolve the problem.
