Why do i have black sludge all inside my ge refrigerator

Of course it is worth fixing! This leak is cause by a defrost drain that is blocked with ice and sludge. I really can't tell you how to remove that rear panel unless you provide a model number. This problem is worse with the Samsung dual evaporators as the evaporator inside the fresh food compartment is usually the one that causes problems on those models. There are a few GE dual evaporator refrigerators also that are really a Sumsung with the GE brand name. Hi,

Are you talking about the Condenser Fan at the back of the fridge next to Motor/Compressor.

If that is running slow it means the fan motor bearings and lubricant inside the fan motor has turned into a sludge which is a common problem. Need to replace the condenser fan motor. You can put a normal household fan behind the fridge to cool the compressor in the meantime.

most likely you have a bad computer board if the freezer is getting warm too.if there's no ice on the back wall of the inside freezer wall then it's the board.you can check this site out

A major problem with the ge side by side refrigerators with metal liners is water freeze-up inside the door of the freezer. Short term repair is to heat the dispenser area CAREFULLY with a hair dryer right at the point where the water spout comes out.
The long term fix involves installing a heater in the dispenser part number wr49x10173 @$60. The kit comes with installation instructions..

if you burn a lot of candles in your home its the soot from that...i bet you do!

check electric to the light see if the bolb is good and your switch might be bad on the door...

remove the tap if possible, insert a short length of flexible curtain wire to remove blockage, Pour boiling water into the reservoir and allow to filter out of the tap to remove sludge ect.

Probably the compressor relay Located in little black box on compressor.

A GE has a element behind the back wall with the evap where you thaw out the Ice this is called the defrost heater it is a glass tube with a wire inside the tube there may be two of them or just one usually one of them have went out and you can look at them and tell it will look like a black bunched up glob inside the tube not a spring like it should. and black will be on the inside of the glass. replace it and it will not do that anymore

This is a problem with my GE side by side also. It only happens occassionally and there doesn't seem to be any fix. I've had GE repair service here more than once. It seems that the insulation in the door is insufficient to keep the water line from freezing up. Small wonder GE is part of this awful financial mess.
