yes do i need help, i paid the mechanic all of my income tax money and he's had my car for about 2 mos. He has bought it back 4x, with the same problem. I had the head checked for pressure & vaccum, it checked out fine. But the car keeps spitting out stuff from radiator overflowing & if you just let it run coolant spills out & if you drive it for about 30 minutes and break or slow down the oil light comes on. The mechanic stated he did his job by fixing the timing belt & the head, he said that's what i paid for and he would have to charge me for the block since he things that might be the problem.

  • witherspoon5 Apr 28, 2009

it was used and i had it tested today for pressure and vacuum it came back fine. I think they rebuilt my old one. Could it be a crack in the block.

  • witherspoon5 Apr 28, 2009

no i didn't have any problems, had my oil checked regularly at dealer ship. It doesn't happen right away, normally after the car has ran for about 15-20 min. I never had any leakage or anything. This guy is trying to tell me he has done all that he was paid to do which was change timing belt & rebuilt head because that what he recommended. Now i still can't use car & it has all of these problems now, he says it probably has a crack in the block. Is there anyway to test that

what should i do now, i'm a single mother who has paid over $1700 for the repair of my car and still no car since Feb 12, 2009. When some replaces the cylinder head does that mean it includes the cylinder block as well, because now i feel like i'm being ripped off?

sounds like the wrong cylinder head was used or the wrong gasket.

It sounds like the head gasket is leaking.

Is there also antifreeze in your oil? That may be causing your oil light to come on.

I would quit driving it until the situation can be resolved.

If you need more help post a comment and I will get back to you.

It is hard to diagnose the problem without seeing the vehicle, but I would make sure that the thermostat is operating properly. Does the coolant bubble right away when the cover is off of the reservoir? Usually they will start to bubble right away even if the engine is cold.

Did you have any problems before the timing belt broke?

Will you send your telephone # to my email? It is [email protected]

It does not cost me anything to call long distance. I would like to assist you in troubleshooting over the phone while the car is running.

How to replace 1998 Ford conture blown head gasket need help never did one

Hi
If you haven't ever done one then i suggest take to a garage.
You need to take the engine head off.
Timing belt off.
Radiator flashed / change
all water hoses off and cleaned.
head pressure tested
head skimmed.
Oil flush
New oil and oil filter.

Its not a simple job. whilst everything is open. change the timing belt and water pump as well.

How do I check if my timeing belt is broke. Does a 04 4wheel drive have a belt or chain.

If it was "steaming", "slowing down" and finally "quit running", it doesn't sound out of time to me! It sounds SEVERELY OVERHEATED. I would be checking the engine coolant level. If it is low (which it sounds like it most likely is) Then you need to find out where the coolant is leaking from. Maybe you will get lucky and the engine will not be totally destroyed.

Also check for engine coolant in the oil....If there is coolant in it, it will look like a chocolate milk shake. this is an indication of blown intake or head gaskets, cracked cylinder head and/or cracked/broken cylinder walls. (very likely on an overheated engine)

Over heating

over heating can be caused by a number of things. your water pump could have died or the gaskets could have went on the water pump spilling your antifreeze every where. in which case you need to replace the water pump and gaskets. when you change the water pump you should replace the thermostat because they usually fail at the same time. your thermostat could have locked closed. in which case replace the thermostat. i recommend getting a fail safe thermostat so when it fails it gets locked open and then the car dose not overheat. your belt could have broke so your water pump wont turn. replace the belt. your radiator or hoses could be clogged with rust and sediments in which case you need to flush your radiator and change the anti freeze. you may be just low on anti freeze... so fill it up and see if it leaks anywhere. your tubes could have came off, be loose, or cracked and leaking; so replace or tighten them. your radiator could have a hole in it or leaking some where.. replace radiator. if you drive on dirt roads a lot the radiator could be full of sand and dirt could be full of mud if taken off road. just rinse the radiator out with soap and water. are your floor mats full of water or antifreeze? you could have a bad heater core. replace heater core. or you can cheat and take the two tubes off the heater core and splice them together. (which will leave you with no heat). your fan may have gone out so it wont cool the radiator. the last thing i can think of is very low or no oil in the motor. top off the oil.

97 dodge neon timing belt broke while going down the road need to know how to get car back in time bought a new timing belt new tensioner and still cannont get car to start junk yard says my car does not...

I do not have good news for you.
According to the Gates Timing Belt guide 2002 Edition, both engines offered in the Dodge Neon are interference engines.
This means that your engine has likely sustained sgnificant valve, cylinder head or even piston damage. Have you tested the compression?
It is probably least expensive to buy a used engine, change its timing belt and replace your engine with that one.

Timing Belt, Radiator, Water pump....

If the timing belt broke on a 1.8 turbo usually the valves in the head strike the pistons. You have to have the head removed to check the pistons. When did the radiator crack? Water pump isn't an expensive part but the rest with work hours and parts will be. Might be able to get a used engine but just make sure that belt and pump are replaced with new along with all the tensionners so the same doesn't happen. Also make sure the oil pressure is good. Sorry for the loss.
