Re: keyboard broken

Go to a computer surplus place. Look for a box of spare parts with key boards in it for laptops. If you look hard enough you'll find what you need and "cheap".

Try this >>>>

Power down your Compaq Presario F500 notebook computer. Remove the unit's internal battery from its housing compartment.
Use a screwdriver to unscrew and remove all of the screws from the bottom panel of your Compaq Presario F500. Use your hands to lift off the bottom panel, revealing the inside of the notebook computer.
Look for the CMOS/BIOS chip: It will be located in the center of your computer's motherboard, which is itself located in the center of the case.
Remove the small battery from its housing compartment on the CMOS/BIOS chip. Then, press and hold the "Power" button on the laptop's case for a few seconds. This will completely discharge all electricity from the device.
Replace the CMOS/BIOS' battery. Place the bottom panel of the notebook computer back on and screw it back into place. Place the Compaq Presario F500's battery back into its housing compartment and press the "Power" button to turn it on. Your CMOS/BIOS will now be completely reset.
Good luck and please let me know how you get on!!!!

Evon610c keyboard keys broken how to replace the keyboard ? how to open the case with out damage internal parts ??

this may help you i found it somewhere online

How to Replace the hp compaq evo n610c laptop keyboard Removing the Damaged Keyboard
Enusre the laptop is fully powered off, unplugged from the wall, and the battery taken out.
Turn the laptop over. On some models icons indicating which screws are attached to the keyboard are displayed. If not, you may have to eyeball it if you can't find a breakdown for your model online.
Remove those screws with a Phillips screwdriver.
Turn the laptop back over and open it up. Check and see if the keyboard is tucked under any plastic pieces. If so, find if those plastic pieces are screwed into anything, and unfasten them as well. If not, it probably uses clamps that can easily be removed.
Remove the plastic pieces carefully with a toothpick or plastic pick if there is any in the way.
Unscrew any screws at the top (if necessary) and remove the keyboard itself from top to bottom. You'll notice that the keyboard is connected with a thin, but wide, data cable to the system board at the bottom.
Take that same pick and lift the plastic connectors that hold in this data cable in place.
Carefully remove the data cable. Now the whole keyboard should be free.

Replacing the keyboard

Take the new keyboard out of the plastic, and slip the data cable back in between the plastic connectors on the system board. Make sure it's all the way in.
Use the pick to push the plastic connectors back into place, and make sure it's holding the data cable in.
Slip the keyboard itself into place, from bottom to top. Make sure the screw holes or clamps line up at the top.
Refasten the keyboard in place at the top.
If you had to remove any plastic pieces, carefully snap them back in and replace any screws you had to remove.
Turn the laptop over and replace all of the keyboard screws.
Finally, put the battery back in and power on the laptop. If all has gone well, the keyboard should be functioning like brand new

hope this was helpful

I accidentally detached a button from my compaq presario cq40 laptop but it's not really broken and i can't attach it. how do i attach it again?

Sometimes if you are lucky you can just put the key level where it goes and press firmly but not excessively and it may reseat itself. If this does not work, you should make sure that the plastic piece and the key are lined up appropriately and then secure them to the base. Make sure the rubber stopper is in the center of the key seat so it can press the key when the button is depressed.

Good Luck,

I've managed to damage a key on my cq60 keyboard. Apparently you can't buy the flimsy plastic fitting on its own so I've ordered a new keyboard. Where can I find instructions for replacing it?

There should be 3 Phillips screws on the bottom of the unit that secure the keyboard. Most HP laptops have a little keyboard symbol indicating the correct screw.

Here is a link to the service manual describing the process.

How do you remove the keyboard from the f730us? keys are broken and I need to replace the keyboard, but cannot figure out how to remove old to get part number...

On most laptops there is a piece of plastic between the screen and the keyboard. If you get a small screw driver and are careful you can pop up the plastic. Underneath this plastic you will find the screws you need to remove in order to remove the keyboard. If you are worried about scratching the laptop you can buy the tool that professionals use called a spudger to pry the plastic piece up here.

Laptop keys

On a presario the keys are hinged with a small metal hinge at the top that fits into two plastic clips and lets the key sit over the membrane of the keyboard. If the plastic clips have snapped it will involve the fitting of a new keyboard which isnt a user serviceable thing.

If it's out of warranty (HP now own Compaq, so it's them you'll need to talk to, but they will tell you the warranty status from the serial number of the machine) you might consider a rubber "roll up keyboard" along the lines of - these are rubber folding keyboards that can be transported easily in your laptop bag but are still full size.

Loose key

Is only the cap loose, but you can still operate that key?

On most laptop keyboards, the letters are caps on the keyboard button. They are held in place by small plastic tabs on the keyboard structure. The cap snaps in place and is held by the tabs. If the tabs are broken, the cap stays loose.

Some keyboards use a small slider that moves as you depress the key, which means you can't glue it.

Laptop keyboards are replaceable and can be purchased cheaply on ebay or some repair sites.
