Xbox 360 drive doesn't always open

When I press the eject button the drive doen't always open. What happens is I press it and it makes a noise but does nothing. On the Xbox dasboard it says opening then quickly says closeing followed by reading. It does however sometimes open so should I deal with it until it stops opening(If it ever does) or take it in for repairs. Thanks

I can hear gears grinding yes. One way I can open it is to remove the faceplate, press the eject button and gently pull it. That always works now. Thanks anyway

Can you hear any gears grinding when you try and eject it? Has anyone ever pulled or pushed the tray in roughly?

Ok well, if you can hear gears grinding that mean that the gears that push the tray open are damaged. The only way to fix that is have the gears replaced. This may mean replacing the disc drive.

I recommend afixing a handle to the drawer and pulling it out after pressing the button. Mine sticks a little, but will open if I help it.

Mine does that too sometimes but it does it most if i ever move the console to a different room or place ...... it helps mine to tap it a little bit on the top above the disk drive.... it will do this only 2 or 3 times after i move it

My xbox is the same.I found out there are two ways of fixing it.One is by sending it to microsoft and they can fix it for free. The other way is by pushing the disk tray and might come out.

The disc draw doesn`t open when i press the open button

standing up or laying down?
when standing they sometimes stick, lay it down and if it still won't open then press down on the casing just above the eject button.
if that doesn't work then the unit will have to be opened, the dvd drive taken apart and completely cleaned.

Xbox 360 - Stuck or sticking tray fix!

If your Xbox 360 DVD drive won’t eject it can be a very simple fix.

The Samsung drive is almost always a very simple fix, if you have another drive, it may be more difficult.

To identify your drive, follow this guide:

• Remove the faceplate by firmly grasping the opening for the USB ports and pulling.
• Underneath the DVD tray there should be a small hole.
• Look at the wires in the hole to identify which drive type you have.

Red and Black Wires = Samsung Drive
Yellow Wires = LiteOn Drive
White Wires = BenQ Drive
No Wires = Hitachi Drive

SAMSUNG:

It is very common for a Samsung drive to not eject. It’s a very simple fix for this!

1. Power on your Xbox 360
2. Press the eject button
3. When the Xbox 360 “tries” to eject, just simply push in on the tray cover.

That should make it eject!

If it does not, please follow the guide for the other drives below:

This requires you to disassemble your Xbox 360. IF you don’t know how, look it up on google, there are plenty of guides.

Then follow these steps:

1. Remove your Xbox 360 DVD drive from the Xbox 360
2. Turn over and remove the four screws securing the drive (6 screws if it’s a Hitachi)
3. Remove the top cover of the DVD drive.
4. Put the drive back in the Xbox 360, connect the wires, and power on your Xbox 360.
5. Once the 360 powers on, eject the drive. Most of the time it should eject normally. If it doesn’t you may have to force it.
6. Unplug the Xbox 360. If you turn it off with the power button the tray will close first, we need it open.
7. Near the front of the drive, you should now be able to see and access a small rubber band that was hidden by the tray.
8. Remove the band, lubricate and replace.
9. Replace the top cover and hook up and test.
10. If that doesn’t work, you may need a new rubber band. If you can get one of the right size, replace and test.

Xbox 360 DVD rom will not open

If you press Eject and the drive makes a noise like it wants to open -- but it is not opening, usually that means the belt has worn out. When you press eject, a motor pulls the belt which pulls the gears to lower the tray and open the drive. After some time, the belt can and will wear out. You can find them at the following website:

Tray won't close

Use the following steps to close the disc tray on an original Xbox 360 console.
Step 1: Remove the disc from the tray Step 2: Make sure the faceplate is on correctly
The faceplate is the plastic piece on the front of your console.
  • Press firmly around the edges of your faceplate to snap it into place (make sure it is flush with the rest of the console). If the faceplate is not on correctly, the disc tray won't close.
  • If you find that the faceplate is the problem, please contact Xbox Support to order a replacement faceplate.
If this does not resolve your issue, please try step 3. Step 3: Press the eject buttonTry closing the disc tray by pressing the eject button. If the disc tray successfully closes, open the tray and insert a disc. Now try opening and closing the tray with a disc in the tray.
Note Make sure that the disc isn't sticky and doesn't have any labels that could prevent the tray from closing.
If your disc drive still will not close, please try step 4. Step 4: Move the disc drive tray
  1. Gently move the tray up and down, and then from side to side.
  2. Press the eject button on your Xbox 360 console. If your disc drive still will not close, you need to have your console repaired.
  3. Step 5: Request a repair If the disc tray still won't close properly, your Xbox 360 console needs to be repaired.

What can i do when the tray of my xbox 360 does not want to open?

This is a common problem for the Xbox 360 and s usually caused by the dvd drive belt becoming old and weak. Try putting the xbox 360 horizontally and when you press the eject button press the drive slot and rub it upwards. This will help the belt to turn the eject mechanism and hopefully should eject for you.

Hope this helps

My xbox 360 disk tray will not open it wont even open a little some one help me

have you tried to open the drive using the xbox dashboard, when you press the eject button does the power light flash? is there any noises coming from the drive when you try to eject.

It could be a faulty drive and the only way to get into the drive is by opening the console up and this could void your warranty. if your hearing noises (motor spinning) from the drive it could be the drive belt has snapped (like a small elastic band) you could have dirt in the gears and cogs jamming the drive. so you wouldnt hear noises (except the disc spinning if there is a disc in it).
if the power light flashes when you press eject more than likely it is the drive belt or dirt in gears.

Disc keeps ejecting

Sounds like your disc drive is malfunctioning. Honestly the only thing i could possibly think of is that the button for the disc drive could've gotten stuck and opens the 360 by any sudden movements.

Need more info than that. Does the light in the center of the power button flash like it is trying to open? Does it make any noise? Does absolutely nothing happen? This can a problem from small to large. It could just be a bad switch or connection, or the drive may need to be replaced.
