Question about Magellan RoadMate 360 GPS Receiver

Open Question

Unit won't locate position

I have been unable to get my unit to locate my position with the GPS. I have tried waiting 30 minutes for it to find "me" with no luck. Every time I want to use it, I have to manually put in a starting place. If I am on the road moving, like on the express way,and decide that I'd like to use the GPS, it doesn't appear to be possible--because it can locate me and I don't have a physical address to start from on the express way.

SOURCE: My Magellan RoadMate 700 GPS Receiver won't locate my position.

If out of warranty time frame, open her up and check the grey cables that you will notice right after you crack the case. Make sure the cable is un damaged and connects to the main board (the big one) to the I/O board (attached to rear housing). If no change, then try resetting GPS user data. At User Menu (after reboot), press "-" key and repeat key at the same time. select reset GPS user data and cross your fingers. -Daniel

It won't turn on and even if i plug it into the computer or a ciagrette lighter nothing happens. it was working perfectly fine when i was using it and now i have absolutely nothing. it kept saying low...

Have you tried pressing and holding the power button for about 8 to 10 seconds? It should go on then off. Then wait a few seconds the turn it on normally. This usually resets the unit.
If this does not work try a hard reset.
Press and hold (and continue to hold) the bottom-right corner of the screen while powering the unit on.

Continue to hold the screen until the "Do you want to erase all user data?" prompt appears.

Press "yes" and the unit will reboot. This resets all your location settings and user preferences.

If possible after the hard reset, let the unit sit outdoors in the open for about 30 minutes or so to let the unit re-acquire the satellite data.

Once it gets going update your gps at the Garmin site.

Model 1350 will not aquire satelites to operate

During the initial start up of your GPS it may take 15-30 minutes to lock satellites depending on where it is. I would suggest giving it a full charge powering it on then let it sit for 30 minutes. If you are unable to lock satellites still there may be an issue with your unit.

Hope this helps!

Can not acquiring sateilites,and always start in kansas.dDid reset,and a hard reset.Samething.

How long did you leave it out in full view of satellites? In some cases, when the unit is new, you might have to wait 20-30 minutes for it to get an initial connection and to download the location info, etc to the unit. The location reads Kansas because that's where Garmin's head office is located so this is the default location.

My gps does no get a valid gps signal

Try resetting the unit using the 30-30 (30seconds with power on , 30seconds with power off , holding the reset button down the entire minute) Take the SD card out first. Then replace the SD Card with the power OFF. Turn back on and it will take up to 20 minutes to locate the Sats the first go.. bd

Unable to locate satellites? Not willing to send to Garmin for $79 repair. We attempted to fix by pressing the stick and the two buttons on right at the same time.....did not fix. Should we keep pressing...

Hello there:
You can try to press it untill it connects but if it cant find a signal you may have to move to a different location for the first time also you can reset the unit by disconnecting the power to the unit and removing the battery for 30 min and during this time hold in the power button for 2 minutes and then after the 30 minutes is up put the battery back in and power it up and see what happnes
You might even have to upload any new updates or maps that are available for the unit ok this i have to do an brand new units that have had this problem and after the new updateds were installed it had no problem after this ok
Hope this is very helpful for you
Best regards Michael

Unit is searching for gps signal but unable to

charge it up via the usb to computer cable for a few hours, then take it outside in clear view of the open sky and restart the unit and let it sit there up to 30 minutes.

if that fails, an update will probably cure the problem.

to find updates for your tomtom, download tomtom home Here if you dont have it already and follow the instructions after running tomtom home.

Gps model 330

-after the units have been off for awhile...they need considerable time to reconfigure the satelites

  1. go outside with unit turned on
  2. find an open area...with a clear view of the sky...i.e. away from trees/bldgs/etc.
  3. wait...upwards of 20+ minutes...depending upon your unit
  4. it should be picking up signals continuously...and begin to calculate your location
-the above assumes that the unit has batteries, hasn't been dropped, etc.
-if that is the case....then the unit has other issues

When i put my Navman icn 320 on sometimes it takes upto 30 to 40 minutes waiting for the GPS signal to come through

Hello adamant,

In order to determine your current location the GPS needs to receive telemetry information from several GPS satellites. In order to do that it needs a clear view of the sky. This should happen fairly quickly, typically within a few minutes, but depending on how and where you are operating the GPS the process could take significantly longer or the GPS might be unable to aquire a satellite lock at all.

Local geography such as mountains, hills, tall buildings and heavy forest can block the GPS's ability to receive satellite telemetry. The same thing can happen if you are trying to operate the unit indoors or inside of a vehicle without an external antenna. That's why most GPS receivers are installed on the dash board of the car: the windshield and side windows provide it the best view of the sky.

It is also possible that there is a problem with the GPS receiver or the antenna. To test it, try using the device outside in a relatively open area with a clear view of the sky in all directions. It should aquire a satellite fix in about five minutes or less.

Best Regards,

Locating satellites

Hi cassyd

I have 2 questions in order to help.

1) It can take longer than 30 seconds depending on where you are, how long have you waited for it to acquire?

2) Are you holding the unit verticle while you wait for it to acquire?

If you know your lat/lon you can type that into the position screen while you are waiting for it to acquire, sometimes that helps.
