Question about BenQ PB6110 Multimedia Projector
I have had a BenQ MP610 projector for a little over a year. A couple of weeks ago, I noticed when I am viewing my DirecTV HD channels or movies (i.e. widescreen), that there is a shadow on the left side of the screen running from top to bottom. It covers less than 1/10th of the left of the screen. It looks like something is partiall obstructing the lenses i.e. dust/dirt or something, as it is somewhat transparent, like a very light shadow. Troubleshooting I unplugged all the video sources and the shadow remains. It also remains at any/all focal lengths. I called BenQ service and they said that it wasn't the bulb, but it needed to sent in for repair to fix the shadow. Any help or ideas on either how I could fix it myself (preferred)/what needs to be fixed and where I can send it for quick turnaround at a reasonable rate would be appreciated.
This model is now out of production. It was sold as one of the bottom end of the "DLP" projectors. It's basically a "good cheap" model using a 1.5cm DLP mirror. And being as such, over the year the "thermal cycling" has most likely caused the alignment to shift. It could have collect some dirt in a quadrant of the lens too. That's possible too. Being a manual focus, there is at least no "auto focus mechanism" to worry about. That can be a pain to adjust. You could fix this yourself with some luck. It either has three screws to adjust or it has an ellipictal ring arraignment and you'll need a two correct size spanner wrenches. If it was in front of me I could tell you right away. In any event, if you turn either one of the screws the wrong way it can get worst or if you don't have the correct spanner wrench to adjust it either you can be more trouble. Plus you need to do this with a light source "on" so you can see the effect. Your best choice in this case is to go to a camera repair shop. One that doesn't send their repairs out if you can. (you have more control over the repair) It's an "adjustment and cleaning" and shouldn't be that expensive to do. Please let me know the results when you decide.
