I am getting that this sound board is part of the main board if so make sure you have it enabled in the BIOS "basic input and output system" Also a thing to do is make sure in your operating system under device manager that if its there it does not have a ! on it if it does click on it and see if it needs a driver if so install the driver- reboot the system, If all else fails you can buy a sound card for this unit and it will cost you less then having to replace the mainboard itself, If you find this information helpful please USE fixya when rate-ing the solution I do Thank you for you FREE question today and hope this solution find a fix to your problem

Driver msi model P4m266-8233 n1996

Check the manufacturer's "support" web-site: http://www.msi.com.tw
Select the "device-drivers" for this "vintage" computer (Pentium I or Pentium II at only 266 Mhertz), if they still are available.

What Operating System are you trying to install? Windows 95? 98? NT? 2000? XP?

Any computer built in 1996 should already have the correct device-drivers included on the Windows XP (released in 2001) CD-ROM.

No sound

You can try MSI's site here:
http://www.msi.com/service/download/
Your board is mainly Intel so you might try here:
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/
You have Realtek ALC850 for sound so yo might try here:
http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/
Try High Definition codecs and/or AC97
If you have upgraded to Wndows 7, there have been alot of compatability issues with older software. If it's not a driver problem, mak sure you check in "device manager", by clicking on box next to "sound audio and game controllers" and make sure your device is enabled.

Lost mother board CD sound drivers not installed

You can click on the MSI link below for your MS-6734 motherboard; (All drivers & more).
http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=searchresult&keywords=MS-6734&table=download

If your sound driver software will not install correctly there are other ways to install the driver.
First, your windows registry should be cleaned. (Windows registry contains old sound driver software & RegCure will remove none needed windows keys).
Download & run the free program RegCure.
Here is the link for RegCure;
http://www.pctuneuptips.com/recommends/clean/?gclid=CL2RiIrTmpICFSFMGgodODIPzg

Once RegCure has finished restart your system. Create a folder on your desktop & name it, Sound driver. Download the driver from MSI (See the first link above) File name, Realtek_AC97_MB.zip & save the file into your Sound Driver folder. The file named Realtek_AC97_MB.zip is compressed.
You will need to uncompress the file, you will need WinZip for this. You can download a free trial from the next link; (Winzip uncompress *.zip files).
http://download.cnet.com/WinZip/3000-2250_4-10003164.html
Once Winzip has been installed restart your system.
Open the Sound Driver folder. Right click once on the file named, Realtek_AC97_MB.zip.
A pop-up window will open slide your mouse to the Winzip icon & right click on it once. In the next pop-up window slide to & left click, Extract to here. The file will uncompress.
Uncompress ion will create another folder named, AC97. All needed driver files will be stored in the AC97 folder.

Open windows device manager. Click the start button (In windows) & open control panel. Open the System icon. Click the hardware tab & than click the device manager button. Look at the icons.
If you see, unknown PCI device or a yellow pair shaped icon with an explanation point ( ! ). This will most likely be for the sound driver. In stall the driver software from here. (Follow the instructions below).
Right click once on the explanation point, a window will open & Left click once on “update driver”. Windows hardware wizard will open. Click No, not at this time. Than click the next button. Another window will open. Left click once in the circle next to, Install from a list or specific location (Advanced). Than click the next button. Again, another window will open. We want to remove the green check mark next to, Search removable media (floppy, CD-ROM...). Left click on the green check mark once & it will go away.
Click the browse button, click the + sign next to my computer. Find the “ Sound Driver ” folder on your desktop. Open it, high-light the AC97 folder by left clicking on it once. Windows will search within the folder & install the correct sound driver software. Restart your system.
Open windows control panel & open the Sound and Audio Devices icon. Check both the Audio tab & Voice tab. Both should show RealTek AC97. Test for audio.
There are two MSI MS-6734 motherboards.
One model number, MSI KM4M-L MS-6734 & MSI KM4AM-L MS-6734. See below;
MSI KM4AM-L

No sound

The part number MSI-7131 matches MSI's motherboard 915GLM-V. You can go to this MSI link & download the needed drivers. (Suggest you bookmark the link).
http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=driver&maincat_no=1&prod_no=181
MSI shows the model number as MSI-7131-040.

If this does not look like you're board, you'll need to find the correct model no#, not the part number.

Good Luck!
