Question about Sony FD Trinitron WEGA KV-32FS100 32" TV
My 32" Sony TV has been acting up lately (for past week). The Picture has been drifting up so I only get to see the bottom half of the picture and black screen down below. Sometimes the picture just goes to full black screen, sometimes if you turn set on and off a few times picture returns half screen, full screen and perfect or black screen. But over the past few days the TV has been getting progressivly worse and it is harder to get a full picture to appear. There is no problem with the sound even when I get the black screen sound is crisp and clear. This has been going on for about a week now, and today I had to bang on the lower backside where the cable TV connection goes in a few times to get the picture to appear. After about 1 minute I had black screen again. I would prefer to watch TV not get up and bang on the back every couple of minutes. This TV is about 8 years old and I would prefer to keep it if there is an economical fix. I was wondering if this is a common problem with this model and if there is a quick cheap fix or should I spend $1500. for a new one. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Eisbar
This is a simple and common problem. The solder joints on the vertical output IC have cracked loose. I actually did a housecall on the exact same set with the exact same symptoms this morning! A good tech will resolder the pins of the vertical output IC and all other major solder joints on the main board and the set will play fine.
