TV working with DVD player

I have a 1995 Magnoavox TV (model number 25P606-00AA). I can not get a picture (have fuzz) or get the TV to work with the DVD. I have the adpater where I plug it into the TV to convert it for DVD play but I can't get it to work. My daughter used the same connector box and TV in college a few years a go and worked but she doesn't remember how it was hooked up. I don't have cable connected to it but was hoping for the local channels and a DVD player to work with it.
