Putting the Computer Back Together

My brother wanted to add more memory to his HP Pavilion XE743 computer. After doing research for memory, I suggested that he gets a 256 MB, 168 pin, PC 133 Mhz. After opening the computer and taking out a few wires we took the old memory out and put the new memory in. My problem is that i don't remember where some of the wires go, so if anyone has any step by step instructions that would be great to put the computer back together.

If you're not sure if a module is right for your system, use theCrucial Memory Advisor tool for a list of guaranteed compatible modules.

first you will need to select the manufacturer from a drop down list then select your product line from a drop down list then select the model then click find it will take you directly to compatible ram also you will have an option to scan your system

you should always ask for a guarantee on the compatibilitybefore making any purchase and try to buy for working pairs if possible

When playing online games, my computer runs really slow, and at least once a week i get a pop-up stating that the virtual memory is low - how do I fix it?

The easiest way is to add more RAM memory. More RAM = faster computer.

Go to WWW.CRUCIAL.COM and run their SCAN MY COMPUTER option.

This will tell you excatly how much RAM you currently have installed in your system as well as how much room you have to add more if you want. It will tell you all the specs you will need to buy new RAM memory sticks and easily upgrade your computer's performance.

Good luck and please post back if this was helpful or if you need further assistance.

Did a recovery but computers still running slow. I would like to try a reinsall what do I got to do. to preform this. HP Pavilion Media Center a1600n

Running slowly could be a lot of things. It could be you don't have enough physical memory (RAM) in your computer to do what you want. Less than 1 or 2 GB might be seen as slow. If you really want to reinstall Windows, back up all the files you want to save to someplace else, like an external hard drive or thumb drive. You will have to reinstall all your programs (Office, etc) after you reinstall Windows. Take the CD copy of Windows that came with your computer and boot your computer to that. You may have to change the boot order by entering Setup (usually by pressing F2 when it starts). Make sure the CD drive is first in Boot Order. When you boot to the CD follow the instructions for installing Windows in the screens which follow. Delete any existing partitions and install it on a clean partition.
Good luck!

Add Memory

it depends, you will want to check the type of memory first, and make sure you are purchasing the correct type. Also, if you have memory slots that are different colors, you will want to put the memory in two similar colors. also, i would advise buying a set of 2 1gb sticks of ram that are dual-channel capable, and removing the old memory. Otherwise the old stick of memory will significantly slow down the speed the new stick can run at. Memory is extremely cheap at newegg.com, you can get 2gb ddr2 ram for under $30.

Memory Installation

Have you tried putting the old memory sticks back in, if they still work, i would try just putting one of the 512's in. If that don't work try the other.
I'm guessing either one or both of the 512's are either faulty or not compatible.
Hope this helps.
