Question about Seagate Barracuda ES (ST3320620NS) IDE Hard Drive

1 Answer

St332062 I have 2 pc's and bought 2 new st332062 hard drives for more storage. Both are fitted via a pci card not direct to the mother board. They both now and again disappear. If i reboot they come back, sometimes for a week other times only a few minites. I've changed the cables to the pci cards and that seemed to cure them. But they are both at it again on a regular basis. They tend to drop out now when they are under stress rendering video Drives me nuts any idea's, if it is the cables or bad connections any idea's? Before i bounce them into the bin and return to the old styles drive!

Hi, I am inclined to think it's not the HD nor the PCI card interface that's the issue in this case. It is possible that it's your motherboard or even maybe your power supply or a combo of both. Pls post back brand/model/version/ of your PC/motherboard and the wattage of your power supply. Cheers.

    Hi again,

while checking out your mb specs, have you/can you try moving the PCI card interface to other IDE slots. Please remember that very often the PCI slot next to the AGP slot shares the same IRQ at the BIOS level. Windows may or may not change the IRQ but as stated it is often shared. Likewise, pls don't use the PCI before the ISA slot.

Cheers. will get back soon as have thought mb specs over.

also it may be better if you set manual IRQ to the add on PCI card interface (say 13 or 16 since onboard IDE are 14 and 15).

I think graphics card is shot in my Gateway GT 5408 PC nothing but black screen.Hard drive seems to be working.I was going to replace card but the one in computer is intergrated on mother board.

Looks like your PC has PCI Express slots, one x16 and x1. So you can get a new PCI Express video card which should improve overall performance, especially gaming. It will also free up some system memory that has been shared with your on-board video. You'll have to go to BIOS and change the "Initial Display" setting and/or turn off the on-board video. I'm using the ATI Radeon HD 4350 and have no complaints.

Instalation of ad on IDE/SATA PCI card

You have to set one of the DVD as Master end the other as Slave if they share the same ribbon connector. Do this simple test: let only one of the DVD connected. If the PC "sees" this one, then the card is OK. If need more instructions, just post a comment.

Hp pslp-le mother board

this motherboard will take an add-n serial card (PCI slot) to get your nine pin connection. the hieght that this card can be will be determined by the case room you have inside your particular case.
there are three PCI slots on your motherboard, this is where you install the card if the slots are not used by other cards.
Here is a link to the type of card you need---

Wirring for my mother board

The board may have tiny words printed on it telling you what the plugs are.

Most newer boards are fool proof in that only the specified cables can be plugged in. generally the Hard drive plugs into IDE 1 or MAIN and CD drives plug into IDE 2
Video cards go into the First slot usually. It may be AGP or PCI or PCI express depending on the board. The extra PCI slots are for extra devices like NIC cards and Sound card. Power cables cant be plugged in wrong because there male to female and only fit into there designed plugs.

Make sure the motherboard is installed correctly and is not touching the actaul case but held up with spacers. you can find these at most Computer stores.

Really try and find the manual online if you can. It may be necesary when plugging in the little pins for the power switch and USB pins.

good luck.
