As long as your system board has SATA connectors on it, it supports any SATA device, no matter what capacity it is. SATA only provides a platform for connectivity.

Check here

as per that spec page should have 4 sata ports, if not you can get a PCI card that has sata ports and you should be able to connect the sata devices to that

I am using GA-945GCM-S2l Gigabyte motherboard for my desktop and Windows 7 32 bit OS. The hard disk 250 gb is not working. Will this motherboard support 500 gb SATA hard disc? Bhasker Raj Bangalore India

That motherboard has 4 SATA 2.0 slots.

Should work well.
You said "hard drive" so I am assuming you do not mean
Solid State drive (SSD)

I am surprised you are using Windows 7 with that MB

How can i install my 500 gb sata hard disk, in bios i din't found any sata settings...plz help

There are no SATA settings in BIOS for most systems. As long as your motherboard has SATA connectors, the BIOS should recognize that the drive is installed and then you use Windows to format it for use.
You should see the drive listed in the drive section of the BIOS after you have connected both cables for it (power and motherboard).

Have you considered checking your DVD writer? Also, you might already have a faulty hard disk drive.
You can try any of the following:
1. Double check to see if your Windows 7 installation disk is dirty (clean it using a lint free cloth) or has many scratches. (Your DVD reader/writer would really have a hard time reading scratched disks.)
2. Borrow another DVD-ROM from a friend and use it to install Windows 7 on your computer's C drive.
3. Check to see if ALL cables are properly connected. i.e. SATA, power cables, etc.
4. You could also try to make your 500 GB HDD as a slave drive so that you can backup your files to another media if it works. (Backup to another external hard disk drive, burn it to DVD's, etc.)
5. LISTEN carefully if your hard drive makes unusual noises like unusual clicking, bumping, and/or scratching sound inside your hard disk drive. If it does and as a last resort, replace your hard disk drive.

One bad lead will cause your computer to shut down or continue in a cycle
replace all the leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions + IDE,SATA and the ones that attach from your motherboard to your hard drive

I am not able to detect sata hard disk in msi mother board

Your model K8MM-V motherboard does not have a SATA controller only IDE disk controllers and therefore it cannot detect a SATA hard drive.
To install a SATA hard drive on this motherboard you need to purchase a PCI SATA disk controller and install it on the PCI expansion slot and then attach the SATA hard disk to this SATA controller.

500 Gb sata hdd not detected on k8mm-v motherboard

Find in your BIOS if you have an option that says configure SATA as IDE, AHCI and raid. Set it at IDE and try again to install the OS. After intaling do not switch back because it will not work.
