Creative Zen Firmware Problem

It suddenly happened. I have my Creative Zen just one year and a half and last time that I tried to turn it on it just did not. I did not smashed it or soaked or anything. I reset it. Cleaned it up, Formated all, and the same message is coming........ Firmware Problem!!!! I have tried it all. I downloaded the Creative Zen Firmware 1.03.04 as the Creative site suggests, but my laptop just dont detect the device at all. Any suggestions?????

    I tried to upgrade the firmware and the nomad system crashes

    only shows a screen with the following:

    1. Clean Up

    2. Format All

    3. Reload OS

    4. Reboot

    I tried all and nothing happens

    Have never had a problem until today. Unit froze--has B4 2x but when I removed battery and reinstalled this time all I get is firmware problem no matter what I try--I was warned B4 I bought this that Creative stunk!!!

    I was loading music onto my Creative Zen Jukebox (40GB version) and it was 'rebuilding library' then it froze on a screen 'Firmware Problem'. My Dell desktop no longer detects the player, nor does the player display any message, although I can hear and feel the Zen trying to boot when connected to the computer.

    I have a creative zen microphoto and one day it just wouldn't start for me. There was no reason for this to happen. I rebooted it, cleaned it up and re formated it but it still doesnt work. I think the problem is that there is no firmware on it and it cannot be recognised by the computer. When i attach it to computer it keeps telling me on the screen of my creative that it is goin into recovery mode. Does anyone know how to solve this?

    I have the same problem. I have had my device for a year and a half then suddenly when i switch it on it says "Firmware Problem".



    I have tried reinstalling the disc, Automatic update, Recovery tool, and downloaded the latest firmware. I am really stuck on what to do next. Also when i link my device to the computer via USB it doesn't seem to register.

    When I connected my Creative Zen to PC today I got Firmware problem message & player went into recovery mode. I downloaded Creative MP3 player recovery tool & it went ok until final stage when Zen library appeared to be rebuilding but then it stalled & now the player has frozen. When I restart it does not go into recovery mode anymore I just get Firmware problem message. I tried running Recovery Tool again but it is not recognising device anymore. Help..............

I downloaded Creative Recovery Tool & while it appeared to be downloading ok it stalled at the end of the operation & now my player has frozen. Press play/pause, press reset button and slide power button
will bring u to recovery mode

then u reload firmware and it will erase the firmware and will connect it again to windows. then u download and install a new firrware fromc reative site and voilla.

try downloading the
MP3 player recovery tool from Creative's website (the tool contains the latest firmware update available -- 1.15.03). Plug your ZV+ into your PC, run the program and let it update the firmware. Then format, reload your music and try it.

By the way, before updating the firmware, let the battery have a full charge, ok?

I too recently had the dreaded Firmware proplem displaying on the screen of my Creative Zen. I found this page and after some time of trying I finally fixed it with a mixture of some of the fixs displayed here.
First time I tried I downloaded latest firmware to my desktop and followed instructions to upgrade. At first it looked like it was working as I could see it upgrading on zen screen. But when I rebooted Zen it was worse It just had black screen with Firmware problem where as previously i could toggle tru the Recovery Screen i.e clean up,format all etc.Eventually after a few goes I
1. Charged battery
2.Downloaded mp3 recovery tool
3.Didnt uninstall any software what so ever i.e windows media player 10 or creative software.
4.Run recovery tool - but zen wasnt picked up by it - so I unplugged it ( held in play/pause button , reset and slide to get to recovery menu)and pluged in the usb quickly for split second its picked up and firmware upgraded.Near the end zen upgraded but computer hung looking as if it wasnt sucessful.I stopped the recovery software switched on my zen went to recovery menu-hit clean up then I Formatted it and rebooted it and to my dismay on it came. Reloaded my music and ok since. My advice dont give up and keep at it. I use windows xp by the way. Best of luck Phil

After three months of trying and trying in many computers, following many, many procedures found all over the Internet, my Creative Nomad has accepted the firmware and has borned again.
What I did?
1. Connected the Nomad on a computer with Windows XP and Windows Media Player 9, that never has been touched by a creaive device.
It recognizes the device but can´t find any update to the drivers,
2. Updated Windows Media Player 9 to Windows Media Player 10,
3. Restart the computer
4. Connect the Nomad and the computer recognizes the device and autamtically search and found updated MPT drivers.
5. Run the firmware update program "ZenXtraP4SAudible_PCFW_LB_2_10_03 (Creative Zen Xtra PlaysForSure Firmware 2.10.03)"
6. Finally the magic button always has been disabled was enabled so start reloading firmware.
And now the Nomad is working in windows vista.

The difference between the computer where the firmware works and the others is that this has never had media player 10 or 11 and never has installed creative drivers.
Hope this can be useful to smoeone, somewhere, sometime.....

I spent 8 hours on this problem and just solved it (Windows XP, SP3). Follow Rich_T's instructions here: http://forums.creative.com/t5/MP3-Players/CREATIVE-ZEN-MICRO-FIRMWARE-PROBLEM/m-p/408122 Basically, you need to roll back Windows Media Player 11 to WMP10 *****AND***** roll back Windows Media Player 11 Runtime. The second was what I hadn't done. Then reset computer, plug in Zen, and use the firmware update. Thank-you Rich_T!!!

To Fix any problems with broken firmware form attempted "playsforsure" firmware updates etc where your pc finds it as a 20mb drive and it sits in recovery mode and does bugger all:
(fix courtesty of cinderlee in creative forums)

1. Uninstall all creative software & drivers
2. Uninstall Media Player 11 and Media Player 11 runtime (will require a reboot for each thing). This is done by going to add/remove programs and uninstalling (this will put your pc back to wmp10).
3. Re-install the Zen Driver from the creative website and reboot
4, Plug Zen in.
5, Make sure you have the firmware update ready, run it but don't click the language bit yet), leave the mouse hovering over your language selection.
6. On the Zen- select "reload OS"
7. As soon as it flashes up "reload new firmware now via USB" click the language button
8. Tada, now the pc should find it and allow you to re-load the firmware. (it may take a few attempts)
9. Once complete, click close and restart the pc. Everything should now be fine.
10. once you are happy you can re-install WMP11 and it will work fine.

Ok...had the same problem myself and managed to fix it...if u have windows media player 11 u need to delete it, and roll back to media 10 player!Media 10 will pick up the device, whereas 11 wont!

When u have done this- open media 10 and go to sync, ur device should be in view....In some cases u may need to install the driver again for the devise to be visible... but this is a simple task also...go to MY COMPUTER,SYSTEM,HARDWARE and then DEVICE MANAGER.Check on the portable device option- and if it has been disabled, double click on creative and reinstall the driver.

Next go to http://support.creative.com/ and Simply select the appropriate category. There is an MP3 recovery program on the top right. Download this and then run when complete. Make sure ur mp3 is connected. The program will detect ur model and install the newest version of firmware. Ur creative should reboot and rebuild and u will have a functioning zen again!!

My zen freezes regularly and needs rebooting


It's from the firmware, I've had the same problem and I've gotten the white screen of death. Any suggestions? The power light turns blue but the screen is either black or white, it won't turn off unless I click the reset and then won't turn on until 10+ tries of doing the hold down power button, click reset while plugged in PC thing.

Creative Zen Firmware Problem


Update all the drivers on your computer. Every device should be completely up to date. After this, look for updates to your BIOS.
Note: This is very dangerous. Updating your BIOS may result in damage to your computer. A BIOS is a code the motherboard uses to boot up and run the system by, and by changing this the motherboard may be confused and not work properly. Please use caution when attempting to update your BIOS, and don't hold me or the site responsable if your computer breaks.
So updating your BIOS could fix the problem, as that's the base of the firmware. I can't think of anything else that's productive

about this issue of creative zen wherein the device is not booting up to the normal os. and is not being detected by your computer, and giving you options to clean, reset, and format. my brother and i own creative zen, my brother own zen 4GB and i own 16gb. i don't have any problems at all. but my brother does. what i did is i just download the firmware version of my brother's zen that is missing which is version 1.03.04_0.6.1. unfortunately you will not find this firmware version at creative website. i checked a website and i found this. it's at http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/Other-DRIVERS-TOOLS/Others/Creative-ZEN-4-8-16-GB-Firmware-10304.shtml
just perform this steps and you're good to go.
1. download the firmware for your zen. 2. connect your zen to your pc. 3. run the executable file (firmware). 4. just follow the on-screen instructions on your computer and you're good to go.

Zen Neeon frozen completely


Leave it alone for a while, then try reinstalling the Zen Program, then plug it in, then rest it, then try to switch it on. It worked for me
