Question about Dell Inspiron 8200 Notebook

Inspiron 8200...can it be fixed?

Right after it was out of warranty, or probably even before, because I had lent it to my son and it was in a stationary spot, there was a "hot" spot in the back underneath, that everytime you touched it the computer would lock up. I took it to a repair place for an free estimate and he opened it up and now it doesn't have sound or touchpad. It also loses the hard drive occassionally and I now boot from the hard drive or the CD. What the heck? I know its a boat anchor but I can't afford a new laptop right now.

I'm very sorry, I probably didn't explain well enought. When I said a "hot" spot, I didn't mean literally "hot". There is something in that area that causes the machine to lock up and freeze. It was not overheating. I'm sure he didn't put it back together right, but sheesh, I don't have a clue on how to assemble this myself. *sobs* Thank you.

When that guy so you mentioned opened it up did he tell you it is possibly the fan stuffed up on the top of the processor. Thats why it was hot. Replace the fan then you wont have any problems. If you do the one who opened it first did not put the right things back proper thats my assumption. The sound and the touch pad connections were not replaced when he put it together again. Although the fan on the processor may have been going it is not strong enough to cool the processor down.

Give it ago just becareful if you need to reassemble it again make certain the connections for the touchpad and keyboard are connected. You will see these connect as a flat paper but unbendable connections that slide into their respective slots or ports. once youve done this it should all go again. Usually when a laptop heats up or stops for no reason like you explained is due to the processor overheating? Good luck

I have a Dell Inspiron 8200. The mouse does not respond. It slides down and to the left and then becomes inoperable. Is there any way to fix the problem? Could I use an external mouse?

you can get some really cool tiny little mouse these days or even one with a ball on top that you rotate, ive got an optical one on my standalone, its got a cable but its pretty smooth.
But first try to configure the touchpad in your settings, thaths the most likely problem that you can most probably fix yourself

My dell 8200 inspiron laptop right speaker its not working

My guess is the speakers or connectors have gone bad. I have seen this in a lot of different laptops.

If you are handy, you can disasemble the laptop, find the speakers, and get a part number off of them. Dell is pretty good about labeling the part numbers. Then do a search on Google and Ebay for the speakers, I am sure you can find some cheap used ones that work.

Here is a manual for disassembly of your laptop, and shows where all the parts go. You will need Adobe reader to read this.

How do I turn the wireless on the Dell Inspirion 8200

there is no on-off switch for the wireless on the dell inspiron 8200 if I recall correctly. Make sure:

1. The mini-PCI slot (might actually have to open the little door on the back of the laptop) contains a wireless card

or

2. right click on "my computer", properties, hardware tab... device manager. See if there are any devices listed (yellow "!") that do not have drivers installed. Go to http://support.dell.com and download drivers for your wireless card and install them.

Cannot boot up Inspiron 8200

Could be a tough one. Can you get into the bios ( F8  or F10 ) while booting and check if the HDD is being recognised in the first place ? If it recognises, then check for Boot sequence. I would also suggest to try the Recovery CD that came along with computer.

Sounds like the hard drive failed. If you have any super-important files on there, your local GeekSquad should be able to point you in the right direction to recover those items.
