Question about Mitsubishi WS-55819 55" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

No picture or sound

My Mitsubishi WS-55819 has the all to common problem of turning itself off within a few seconds of powering on. I checked the trouble codes from the front panel and found the 2-2 error code. I have gone inside the tv and found the pico fuse FA905 to be blown. I replaced this fuse just to have the FA904 fuse blow out. I now know I have a problem further down the line. It has been suggested to me that the two convergence ic's behind the big heat sink is a likely problem. Does anyone have any good places to troubleshoot? I am an electronics technician with access to test eqiupment but tv is not my area of expertise. I am trying to get a service manual but have not found one yet. Any help would be appreciated.

My Mitsubishi WS-55819 picture turns a bluish cloudy after a while. It clears up by itself and then does it again. I noticed that when this happens it takes longer to show a picture when turned off then...

Good day!!!

That problem is usually cause of faulty capacitors on the power supply board..

Just follow this instruction to fix your TV..

1. Open the back cover of your TV.
2. Look at the power supply board..Its normally connected to the power cord..
3. After that,,try to look at the actual image of capacitors if it is bulged on the top so that you can easily determine the bad capacitors..
4. After that,,try to replaced the bad capacitors using soldering iron and soldering lead..replaced the capacitors only with the same type ratings and value..
5. Some of the capacitors not bulged so its better if have a capacitance meter

Ws-55819 has code 22. It will power off within seconds.

Error code 22 on this model is most freguently a problem with convergence. Error code 21 is usualy the DM module.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Convergece problem - Common Symptoms include....

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some images of convergence problems.

WS 55819 Mitsubishi HDTV , the tv turned off itself. The power light on for couple of second then off again. What is wrong with the TV?

This is a classic switchmode power supply, shutting down to avoid a fire, explosion, or both. This set had developed a problem, that is so severe that the set must be shut down, This set should be removed from the Power, and in my professional recommendation, you should get a "Quote" for repair, from, an Akai, Approved Service Center, this point is very important for a good result, Always contact, their local, "Head Office" Now, when you get the information you want, then you can decide as to repair of replacement. The reason we want an approved agent, is that way, all the engineers are trained on their own brand sets, they have seen almost all faults, and will get the job done quicker, and for less cost, and usually have parts on hand, also sometimes, there has been a service bulletin in issued and the repair may be subsided or even free.
Above, a service and repair manual, above that are two user manuals.

WS-55819 TV, about 8 years old, stopped working. No picture, just black. When trying to turn on, power light appears for a couple seconds, then turns off. No other indications of life. My kids...

When you turn it on and power light goes off in a few seconds;

On the front of the set push and hold both the Menu and Input (Device) buttons for at least 5 seconds and release both.

Power light will then blink a two digit code, most common is 2 blinks, a pause and 2 blinks--it will repeat the code at least 5 times.

Let me know what code you find and I will tell you what it means and maybe what is wrong with your tv.

I hope you find 2,2, as that is the most easy to fix.

If this helped you rate this solution as I do this here for free.

No, that'll do it. Once you've changed em you'll know right away if somethin isn't right. But take faith and fire that puppy up. If the pix is good you did good. If something is amiss. I'd be happy to walk you through it. My money is on you though.

Mitsubishi ws-55819

Code 22 indicates that your set is in shut down due to what is called Short Protect. The most likely cause is the Converge Ic's drawing too much current and opening one or 2 fuses. Normal repair cost varies by area and servicer. Expect 250 to 350 plus the service call. I normally do this on site.

Mitsubishi ws-55819 power problem

Hello DaveDaveDave, Ok let's levelset as is said in the business world today. it looks like you have an overcurrent protection problem which means that the tv set has a component that is causing excessive current to be drawn. Now this can be caused by a component withc has become "leaky" (by leaky this means the inability to prevent the flow of electrons as related to dc voltage). Your last statement is the reason I am replying how I am. Since you don't have equipment your only option is to take this set to a TV repair shop and have it repaired. I have given you a possible cause a component in the HV section that may have gone bad, but without substantial data as to the voltage levels and signal appearances, one can only guess. I hope this helps and you find what you are looking for. Thank you, Shuttle83
