Unless its broken it should automatically slip into place by gently pressing it back into place.

Tips on Repairing Laptop Keyboard Keys

When you go shopping for a laptop keyboard replacement, it is good to use a parts locator tool. This type of tool makes users to enter their laptop's model number to see exactly what replacement parts are available for it. This ensures compatibility and avoids the hassle of returns and exchanges. The most amazing thing you are going to get is the Dell keyboard. There are several various ways you can repair a damaged laptop keyboard as long as you know what the problem is. Now, there is a step-by-step guide for you how to make your Laptop keyboard, like Dell keyboard work well as it did when you first bought your laptop.

Tip1: The Easiest Way to Fix the Keys
Buy a can of compressed air and spray it on the keyboard if your keys are sticking together. This is the easiest thing you can do to fix the keys on your keyboard. It doesn’t work for all problems, but it’s a good place to start. Make sure you get the air down inside the keys to clean out any debris, hair or food that may have gotten caught in there.

Tip2: Replace a New Keyboard
Replace the inside of the keyboard with a new piece. One of the major problems with Dell keyboards is that the plastic pieces holding the keys in place become loose or broken. You can find a cheap keyboard from Papatek.com or an electronics store. Simply take apart the new keyboard, pull the keys off your keyboard, lay the plastic piece on top and replace your keys.

Tip3: Solve Fall Off Keys
Use a small dab of super glue to replace keys that have fallen off. Dell laptops often have keys that fall off, especially as the computer ages or is used quite frequently. Place a small dab of glue directly on the round part that holds the key in place and lightly press the key down. When the glue dries, you’ll be able to use your laptop again.

Tip4: About the Retainer
Remove any problem keys from your keyboard and look at the plastic retainers. At times these retainers can become broken, damaged or simply fall off. Carefully pull off the retainer, clean it off with some compressed air and snap it back into place. Then put the key back into the slot and everything should work fine.

Buy Compatible brands Laptop Keyboard from Papatek.com, who offers Compatible all brands Keyboard wholesale, like Dell, Acer, etc with best price, 6 month warranty, and shipped fast from USA!

Toshiba satellite A200 laptop ...some keys dont work....maybe stuck...problem keys are A,B,N....how do you clean the contacts if that is the case ?

You can't clean the contacts at all. If you take the keyboard apart on a laptop you will find there are 3 thin plastic sheets of circuitry and there all plastic welded to each other, if you pull then apart you will never get the keyboard to work again. The only thinks you can do is try taking the keyboard off and re-connect it back again. If you still have the same problem you will need to replace the keyboard, best place to look is eBay

Keys on the keyboard do not spell the words correctly

First of all check the keys carefully to see that no key is depressed(especially Function and Toggle keys) ok. Drag your pc to Safe Mode by pressing F8 key before it boots to Windows. Allow to stabilize on the desktop and try the keys again. If it doesn't work properly here, then I'm afraid it has to be taken to the specialist. Good luck.

Hi there.
Many laptop keyboards tend to start doing this after prolonged use (including my own), there is no way of fixing them.
What you need to do is replace the keyboard, in the meantime, you can use a small usb keyboard or use the on-screen until you get the keyboard replaced.

Good luck and thanks for using Fixya!!

I would say it would be best to just replace the whole keyboard. It's not hard, just time-consuming, & you can get a good price for one on eBay.

Loose and Wobbly Laptop Screen

Well, your best bet would be to tighten the screws in the hinges of the laptop screen. You can usually do this by removing the keyboard which will expose the screws. I hope that you find this helpful.
