Samsung 40" LCD turns itself off and on

My samsung LNR408D lcd tv turns itself on and off multiple times when it is first powered up, and seems to stop when used for more than 30 mins. It has done this since 3 months after purchase, it went in for repair and the PSU was replaced. After a few months it did it again, and this time the PSU and PCB were replaced. Now 8 months later it is doing it again, and is out of warranty. Can anyone help please?!!!

I have a one week old Samsung 32 inch that also behaves the same way. I thought these were supposed to be among the best?

Yep, my is doing the same thing. I thought I was smart for not buying the Best Buy Warranty now I'm supposed to send my tv away for repair. What a huge hassle.

I have a 32" Samsung model # LN-82341W. I have owned it for a little over a year and just recently has begun turning on and off all by itself. At first I thought my wife had left the tv on before she went to bed, but I have gotten up in the middle of the night and found it on. Additionally, I have been watching a ballgame and it has turned off all by itself. Then, a few minutes later it will come on without anyone doing anything to it. I have removed the batteries from the remote so as to eliminate the issue of a defective remote but, TV turns on and off at will. Can anyone suggest a remedy. Right now I am unplugging it at night.

Saaaaaaaaame problem - turns off by itself randomly and right back on.

Nice to see Samsung has a way to help us with this - tech support gave me a CYA answer.

Sorry, not a solution. I'm having the same problem. TV will randomly turn itself off, and I can't turn it back on. It will stay off for random lengths of time. I thought it could be temperature related, as the room it's in gets very cold, so I tested that theory, but no luck. I have ruled out power source as the problem, as I have it in a massive, high end surge protector, and have tried direct to wall, etc, and all other components work fine in these same ports.

Help!!! Anyone had any love from Samsung?

I had Samsung support come to my house and they said it could be one of two things, one of which was a faulty power supply. Since they only had the power supply in stock at that time, they replaced that, and I have not had the problem since. So hope that helps! And hope it's under warranty!

After you are sure you have hooked up the receiver to the TV properly and with the proper setting in the menu, if you are still having problems then you need to change the main board (the one with all the jacks on it). You will have to take the back from off the set. You will have to get the number from off the board itself and it should start with BN94-. Do a search on ebay with the part number or go to shop jimmy.com for price and availability. Also try to google search. The board is easy to change just unplug and unscrew from the panel.

I'm curious, what were your TV's symptoms before you swapped power boards?

Does you're TV have an "a/v board"? that is, an integrated controller for both the LCD and the speakers that is separate from the motherboard? I've never seen them integrated like that, but if so, you might try replacing it because it sounds like a cheap solution.
The most likely problem however is the motherboard, which as you probably know can be pricey to replace.

Sounds like a backlight going bad or possibly the inverter. Check each backlight first for dark discoloration on the ends. If that checks out good then it's the inverter.
