Refrigerator/freezer is warm, fan is run...

The refrigerator is 2 1/2 years old out of warranty. The freezer kept thawing out the food, then refreezing. I have a loud buzzing noise happening every minute or so followed by a "click noise". The noise seems to be coming from the front bottom of the refrigerator. Yesterday, I came home and everything in the freezer had thawed out, ice turned to water and the refrigerator isn't cooling. Both frig & freezer are warm not cooling. It seems the fan in the freezer is running but nothing is happening. I had to throw out all the food. Sears can't get to my house to look at it until 10/12. Please help. I'm pretty handy for a women if you guide me through the check list. Thank you!

- You're wonderful. I'll be back in touch in a few hours. Thank you. :)

- I went to Sears and purchased the part. The parts department loaned me a dorm size frig to get me by until my service call. The manager was able to move my service call to Tuesday. I'll have the temporary part here just in case they don't have one. This works out great. Thanks for all your help

- I've had my frig turned off for two days now. I decided to turn it back on since Sears will be here tomorrow to repair it. It seems the freezer is ice cold but the refrigarator is slowing cooling down. What would have caused the system to start up again? It doesn't seem to be making any strange noises like it was before it went out. It's producing ice cubed again and the whole nine yards. I still think the refrigerator should be checked out. I can't afford to keep losing all my food.

- I woke up this morning to the buzzing, clicking noise once again. Thanks again for all your help. I'll let you know what Sears says about the problem today.

- My compressor was ordered. Thank you once again for all your help.

The problem is the compressor isnt starting. The relay is probably ok. It should have 5yr warranty on the compressor. However if you purchase a Supco RC0810 start assist relay available at all appliance parts stores, it will start the compressor, however this is only a temp fix. But it should last till sears can put a new compressor in.

- but start by pulling out the unit and remove the black lower metal cover, you dont have to remove the one with the water lines going into it.

- Yes i have replaced probably close to 50 of the particular style compressor in your refrig for those exact symptoms occasionally it wont start when the unit cycles on (the buzzing you hear is the compressor trying to start but locked) the click is the protection switch shutting the compressor down for 2-5mins and then it will try again. When the compressor first starts to fail this buzzing wont be as loud and it usually starts after the 4 or 5th time.No food Lost. But as the compressor gets more worn out it gets louder the clicks become more frequent and it may not start for several hours and then eventually they dont start at all. Hope this helps

- Yes and they frequently start after power is off for a day or so and freon pressures are asolutely equal and compressor has less resistance to start.
