Does not spin

My washer makes noise but it does not spin. I am curious if I need to call a repairman, or does my model have an easy fix for this problem

I would like to know how to unloose the metal tub and unclog the holes where a rag has lodged at the bottom of the tub covering 2 of the 4 rain holes. I've broken down the washer all the way down to the tub

For everyone except 'overseer'
the coupler can be purchased at a local parts store
'Kenmore motor/gearbox coupler' will get it for you, there is only on for all the models.
it is an easy fix

  • unplug washer
  • remove trim ends of control panel
  • remove phillips head screws from bottoms of control panel under where trim was
  • slide control panel forweard & up about 1 inch, then flip over the back of the control panel, do not dislodge the air hose
  • remove brass clips in rear corners of top with screwdriver, remember how they fit
  • unplug lid switch connector
  • lift body 1inch and slide forward to remove
  1. front center is the motor pump and gearbox
  2. do NOT disconnect hoses
  • remove spring clips holding pump on to motor shaft, note where they go for reinstall. there may be a lock screw in the top right clip.
  • swing pump to the left and use a string or bread bag tie to hold it out of the way.
  • remove spring clips holding motor to gearbox shaft, note where they go for reinstall. there may be a lock screw in the top right clip.
  • heave ******* motor, to separate the coupling
  • remove coupling halves from gearbox shaft and motor shaft and discard.
  • using a wooden dowel and hammer, on the center of the new coupling halves, drive them onto the motor and gearbox shafts, (dont hit the fingers, they break, note the new couplings have metal centres to solve ongoing problems.)
  • rotate gearbox coupling, 1 up 2 down
  • rotate motor coupling, 2 up 1 down
  • install rubber shock pad on gearbox coupling
  • install motor on shock pad
  • reinstall spring clips and lock screw if fitted (bottom first, rock the motor on rubber shock mount to ease spring clip installation)
  • rotate motor shaft to align with pump input
  • install pump on motor shaft
  • install spring clips and lock screw if fitted
reinstall body in reverse order

it takes less time to do the repair than it takes to type this

I have a admiral washing maching, model LNC6766B71, it is top load. It makes a load noise in spin mode.

if noise is constant maybe bearings? Is the load even? Not totally familiar with item but the I think the two possibilities above are worth considering. Do an spin on empty. NOISE??? I would guess bearings.

Had repairman fix my disherwasher few days ago not draining. Now it's noisy while washing which was quiet before

Look around the bottom of the tub for foreign material, like a knife, spoon, nut or bolt.

I think if the repairman had "done it", it would have acted up immediately.

Also, look for anything sticking below the basket that might be interferring with the washer arm that spins around, too.

Whirlpool Model #: WTW4800XQ making a loud grinding noise during or at end of spin cycle. Help!

I have a similar model (WTW4850XQ1) that was making a very loud grinding/screeching noise during the agitation and sometimes the spin cycle. I unplugged and turned it on its front to get underneath and exposed the motor/transmission unit. Took the cover off the belt drive assembly and my drive gear was loose. Simple tightening down of the nut was an easy fix for me. But some times those plastic gears between the drive pulley assembly and transmission crack or the teeth wear down (think it's called the CAM). That is a fairly cheap and easy fix as well ($35). Repair Clinic website has free videos on how to diagnose and fix issues and parts as well. Worth a look.

Noisy when in spin cycle

This could be the drum baring and probably will need professional engineer to do it.

Ge washer whdsr209d wont engage spin cycle

It is probably the lid switch. you need to look for it, it will be somewhere where the lid meets the top of the machine. When you find it, bypass it. You will just have to be careful after doing this and remember that when you open the lid, it will not stop spinning or what ever cycle it is doing at the time.

We just replaced the struts because the washer is making such a horrible noise when it spins. That didn't fix the problem. I sounds like it is inside the drum............at a loss as to what to do now. ...

there are leveling feet under the front of the washer...lift front of washer and these feet should turn like a screw to level the washer....unlevel washers make terrible annoying noises...i hope this helps..good luck

My model #gltr1670aso makes loud noises during spin cycle

Usually this is due to either the drum support breaking or the back bearing being bad-neither easy to fix- or worth it. Try lifting the drum up and down, if it moves up and down they are bad. I see this a lot, and the price of repair isn't worth it. Craig

Grinding noise on spin

Your washer has likely become unbalanced. I'm assuming you have a top load washer. Really your only option is to call the people you bought it from and have them perform maintenance. The repair itself should be quick, easy and cheap. Your big costs will come from paying for labor to just get the repairman out there. I'm hoping you have insurance.

Washer wont spin

CHECK THE MOTOR COUPLING. IT MAY BE THAT. CALL YOUR REPAIRMAN AND SEE IF HE CAN FIX THE PROBLEM. IF NOT, THEN YOU NEED TO BUY A NEW WASHER. GOOD LUCK.

Kenmore spin cycle thumping noises

I just went through the same issue with my Kenmore front loading washing machine. I assumed (and a Sears repairman also told me) that it is the bearings. After I took the drum assembly out, I saw the rear drum broken and the inner tub hitting the outer tub. I ordered the outer drum assembly and only when I took the inner drum assembly out I realized the the "Spider" attached to the inner drum (and spindle) was broken. Entire drum assembly cost $417 + shipping and it may be cheaper in the long run to buy a new washer. I like the front loaders because they save water and good for the environment, but the US manufacturers have not yet perfected the technology like European manufacturers (or they don't want the machines to last too long just like cars). Anyway, I am looking into welding the spider tomorrow. If not will return the outer tub assembly and buy a top loading washer for $300!
