So you dont have the auxilary power connector commonly known as the lighter plug on it? If that is the issue then you would have to take it apart. If you are prepared to do that, there is a diode inside that is protecting the device from any further damage. You can cut that diode out, you can desolder it and replace it, it is your call. But the diagram for those is hard to find and it might have other damage sustained before the diode blew out.
I had it apart, the diode is fried and maybe the regulator. if i knew what the part numbers i would fix it
