Data connection refused (by 6 users)

Hello there. I just both an unlocked Blackberry 8700g that was form T-Mobile. At the moment i want to use it with another sim card from a portuguese operator. He is giving me the message, " Data connection refused". I cannot also send text messages (sms). How do i make it work withou subscribing a data plan? Thanks, Marco

i can call from my mobile but i cannot received calll and there is a messege data connection refused in the top of the screen.

My blackberry 8700 is also telling me that "data connection refused". I tried doing a hard reset by taking out the battery but that didn't work for me. I bought the phone off of e-bay and unlocked the phone. I am able to send text messages but i am unable to make or receive phone calls. I wouldn't think that I would need a data plan for phone calls and I would also assume that since I can send and receive text messages it isn't a problem with the network, but I could be mistaken...

DATA CONNECTION REFUSED means no data is getting to the device
This issue may be caused by one of the following:
There are communication issues with the wireless network.
The BlackBerry smartphone does not have the correct service plan enabled for the account.
Resolution
Cause 1
There are communication issues with the wireless network.
Resolution
Perform a hard reset. For more information, see KB02141. If this does not resolve the issue, contact your service provider for more information regarding the wireless network communication.

Cause 2
The BlackBerry smartphone does not have the correct service plan enabled for the account.
Resolution
Make sure that the correct service plan is enabled for the BlackBerry smartphone user's account. Please contact the service provider to enable the correct BlackBerry smartphone service plan on the account.
