Bad Card, Wrong type of SD, Wrong Formatting.
Testimonial: "I could have used some more details but I think I have the problem worked out. Thanks."
I searched for the specifications. Best I can see, that unit does not have an SD slot. It has a barcode interface and computer connection. Nothing about an SD slot.
The manual from Royal does not mention it in the PDF I viewed, however, I did some research and found a picture. It takes an SD card up to 2GB. Anything larger is an SDHC card. This site link sells a 512MB with the unit as an option. This would explain why the 2GB could fail, and the 4 not work. Get your 512 and try it out.http://www.acedepot.com/710ml.html
I was able to save to the 512 mb card and look at the resulting data. There is some data in the HEADER.ECR file that looks suspicious. It may be what is preventing the load. I am going to try it tonight - but it looks like the size of the card was at least one of my problems.
I think you are on your way. Take care.

Any idea what the max sd size that it handles or what the formatting should be?
Do you have a pic of the slot?
I can get one - I have 3 registers that are this model all with the slot. The manual refers to using it but does not give any specs for it. I have a 512 mb card on order since my 2gig card quit working and 4gig does not work at all.
I found what was giving me the error loading data. We had one barcode programmed that in the data dump, it had an equal sign in the PLU. This worked fine to scan books on the one register and dump the data to the sd card but when I tried to load the data to another register it got a bad data error. The solution is to delete the plu that is causing the load to choke.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I had the same problem and was afraid I would have to reprogram the PLUs, but I also had a bar code with a symbol rather than number. I deleted it, and then it loaded everything perfectly. Thank you!
