Question about Philips Magnavox 9P6034C 60" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Phillips Magnavox 9p6034c 60 in. rear projection t.v.

This set has no picture or sound, only a green light that indicates power when I press the on button. This set was given to me and it worked fine for three weeks, after that whenever it was turned on it would show a small picture and then begin to alternate between full screen deflection and a smaller screen,it would stay at full screen deflection for 1-2 seconds and then go back to the smaller screen. Now only the green light comes on but there is no sound or picture sometimes I can here a hissing sound that lasts approxiately 2-3 seconds.I am experienced in electronics and can work my way through television repair but only for my personal use besides why go through all the haedache when I can ask for help.

Im sure, when I turn on the tv,the green light comes on for power and if I put my ear to the speaker section,I can hear a light thump from the speaker just like when you first turn on a stereo system but there is no audio and the picture screen is black, this set has two flybacks in it,one flyback has three high voltage leads that feed the three crt's,the other flyback is connected to the one that feeds the crt's.I am wondering if my problem could be here, the horozontal output transistor or upstreme of these components. If I am being to wordy if thats a word, sorry just trying to give as much info as possible,I dont have a schematic diagram so I am basically relying on feedback from you folks out there and on that note thanks Likha for responding.

Did not find a 180 or 200uf@200v,did find a 470 uf@250v and it is ok,no leakage. It looks like there is no power to flyback at all.As I have said , tv repair is not my focus in the area of electronics but I do have base knowlege of tv sets, that being said, do you think that I should check the B+ voltage if that would apply to this set and since I dont have a schematic where do you suggest that I check.

  • dazzy Oct 09, 2007

This set still has no picture or sound Phillips Magnavox 9p6034c 60 in. rear projection t.v.,I was trying to reply to a request to check the B+ voltage and somehow my post was closed as solved, however my problem still exists.I did check the B+ voltage,it is supposed to be set at 130v and is adjustable, however it is not present,it appeared instantaneously for a breif second then dropped to 67v and slowly degenerated to zero this is on the d.c. side of the set, there was also a quick chirp during this period. This set may be in protection mode,if so shouldn't I still have my 130vB+ voltage. Please see my earlier posts.

ok! check capacitor in hot area! thats is 180uf 200v or 200uf 200v! maybe this capacitors is leak thats why your unit have abnormal oscillation!

ok! check the B+ and check the fusibol resistor! 470uf 250v that is the starting capacitor from the hot side! you can trace the path of B+ at the positive pole of the capacitor!

No pic. or sound but power light is on

Most likely the blue picture tube arched and shorted out the horzontal output transistor.Very common problem with this chassis. Now if you have an electronics background you can most likley fix it, if not you will be dealing with finding a high voltage leak consisting of 31,000 volts which can kill you. That pop you heard was the high voltage leaking to ground.
