Disc drive not working

-   Brand new Acer Aspire 5335 computer no longer reads or play data or music cd's? What could be the problem? Any suggestions?-   onemisterd

-   Drive not reading disc even though 'sounds' like it's starting up. No icon on desktop though that usually appears when drive is reading so nothing is happening apart from the noise of drive. Have checked the Device Manager as someone has suggested to check if Mode is in DMA and not PIO this is okay. Also, checked the drivers for updates and got message saying all up to date and working. Not being technically knowledgeable with pcs I'm willing to learn from anyone that can offer any possible solutions. ~Thanks-   petalsue22

-   I have an Acer Aspire 5610Z which is having probs with reading CD in disc drive. It sounds like it's starting up, although usually when a disc starts to be read, there is a disc icon with curser on desktop but there isn't one on mine so just making the sounds and nothing else.

I have tried some of the easy ways o.f checking and all seems ok, i.e. the drivers are up-to-date and I've checked the DMA Mode in Device Manager to make sure it isn't in PIO like another poster has mentioned and that's ok too. I am now stuck and need the help of someone with more knowledge please, I'm really only a pc user, not into the techno stuff but I need to learn and willing to try. Thanks.-   petalsue22
