This could be a number of things, or a combination of several.

1. Change the needle, as the eye may be burred.
2. Check Upper tension, as it may be incorrect.
3. Check threading. Machines are often threaded incorrectly.
4. Bobbin may also be burred or threaded incorrectly.
5. The upper and lower tension may both be overly tight.
6. Look at the way the thread comes off the spool. It may have a small splinter in the wood or plastic on one end. That would allow you to sew for a bit then the thread would catch and break under the immediate tension increase. Suspect this when the breakage is somewhat regular.
7. Some of the shiny threads are known to have weak points in them. Try a different brand.

My wife and I were sewing professionals and I was a sewing machine mechanic and problem solver. Because of our skills we seldom had difficulties we could not immediately solve. Because of the nature of home sewing machines, they are a bit more fussy than the professional or industrial grades. You will need to use a strong magnifying glass and critical observation to spot burrs in the metal surfaces. However I would consider the bobbin first.

Additionally, I have heard of a special needle designed specifically for metallic threads, but I use specialized industrial machines and have never had the need of one, so my info may be incorrect. You might search online for one and tips for sewing metallic threads.

SOURCE: top thread keeps breaking

This sounds like a backwards needle. Take out the needle and when you re-insert it back in, make sure that put the flat side to the back.

Can I use 3 in 1 silicone oil on metallic thread? Mine keeps breaking and I'm making embroidered patches for this lady butI'm 45 min from any craft stores. Walmart is close but they were totally out so I...

Trying to lubricate metallic thread sounds like a problem solution I would not like to try. Assuming the thread is breaking at the needle eye may I suggest you try the following. Take out needle and lubricate just the eye with 3 in 1 silicone. Then allow to dry or use a tissue to dry off needle and this will leave the eye coated with a thin invisible film of silicone. Good luck.

My Brother 8500 brakes the needle when embroidering...what it could be?

Suspect uneven feed of top thread.

Manual for reference if needed.

Please check the following;
  • This machine has a horizontal spool. Try using a spool cap that is slightly larger than the spool. Verify spool is in proper orientation, and threaded per instruction. See page 19.
  • Embroider foot "Q" is installed per manual instructions. See page 32-33.
  • Feed dogs are down (supposed to happen when automatically table is installed but check and make sure).

There should be no looping of thread on bottom side. This would indicate top thread tension is too loose or uneven feed (spool cap and/or orientation). Suggest you preset tension prior to installing table using normal presser foot and single layer of same fabric and same thread. Select a straight short stitch (machine default) and tension 4. With a single layer of fabric, tension at 4 is likely high and you will see bottom thread loop on top side so slowly reduce tension until bottom thread no longer shows on top, Then switch to embroider setup and test run.

Comment below with results and I'll assist further if need be.

Check and rethread upper thread Brother innov is v7 error message

If the display reads "Check and rethread upper thread", follow the steps below to resolve the issue:
1. Upper thread may be broken.
2. Upper thread may be caught on the spool on top of the machine.
3. Upper thread spool may have run out of thread.
4. Replace the needle in the machine with a new needle.
5. Your needle could be bent or burred causing the thread to break.
6. Check that you are using the correct size thread.
- If embroidering, use 40/50 machine embroidery thread on top and 60 weight in bobbin only.
Turn your machine off and rethread the machine from the start.

My Brother HE 1 will not feed the top thread. When I embroider, the thread never comes off of the spool. I have rethreaded the needle, it is correctly threaded.

I don't have this particular machine, but have you made sure that you are threading correctly? I would completely remove your upper thread and put on a fresh needle. Also, whenever you do make a thread change, be sure and cut the thread at the spool on top and then pull the thread from the bottom (needle area) This will help prevent any fraying in the thread path that you can't get too easily. If this isn't an embroidery only one, try just sewing first so you will know if it feeds. It it does work in sewing mode, some machines are picky about thread. My lowerlooper thread keeps breaking. I can only

The lowerloop thread kept getting cut by the upperlooper.....I rethreaded the machine in order and then made sure that the lowerlooper thread was UNDER the part of the machine that makes the looks the loopings (silver part that comes to a point on the right side of the needles...sorry I don't know what to call it) and the upperloop was ON TOP of the same part.....it started working great. I actually have very nice tight stitches now.
