    But not completely it seems.
Go to Start/printers and and Faxes and delete the printer icon.
now go to Programs and right click on each Epson printer software icon- if it says remove -do from there.
Now go to Start/Control Panel/Add-Remove software
and look for any Epson Printer Icon remaining
    click on delete.
    Now reboot the computer.
    Ensure you are OFF line
    Disable any AntiVirus software
    Run the software disk again
    Follow the prompts exactly.
Do bear in mind the ink monitor is a fudge based on the number of sheets passed, to tell you to buy another cartridge- it does not tell you the ink level - it is not possible so to do
There is also a useful utility that will reset counters to individual head cleans and all sorts of other useful stuff - download this and when installed right click on the task bar icon to see what it can do.
    Another useful site is
and then type in your printer model in the field.

My Epson Stylus Photo R265 is not allowing IJT Direct compatible ink cassettes to be used - they load into the printer OK. What can I do to make them work?

The compatable inks you use will depend on how old your printer is
Epson change their printer every few months changing the chips so if you have a very early printer you need the earlier chipped compatables

How do I know WHICH of the ink cartridges is out?

I found this on the Epson Web Site. If you find this information helpful, pls rate me.
You can download the Reference Guide with pictures and all.

You can check the amount of ink remaining in the ink cartridges using EPSON Status Monitor 3 or the progress meter. Refer to the sections below for details.
EPSON Status Monitor 3 Access EPSON Status Monitor 3 in one of the following ways.
  • Double-click the printer-shaped shortcut icon on your Windows taskbar. To add a shortcut icon to the taskbar, see the section below.
    font26.gif See Monitoring Preferences
  • Open the printer software, click the Maintenance tab, then click the EPSON Status Monitor 3 button.
A graphic displays the remaining amount of ink.

If any of the ink cartridges installed in the printer is broken, incompatible with the printer model, or improperly installed, EPSON Status Monitor 3 will not display an accurate calculation for the amount of ink remaining in any of the ink cartridges. Be sure to replace or reinstall any ink cartridge indicated by EPSON Status Monitor 3.

Pls rate me. Thanks and Good Luck.....

This seems to be a "feature" of this printer with compatible cartridges although I'm sure it wouldn't be possible to get Epson to admit it. I have seen the same thing on other R265s and I haven't found a solution a yet. As far as I know, it doesn't affect printing - as long as there's actually ink in the cartridges it will print, despite what the Epson Status Monitor says, but YMMV.
