My Gigabank will not read on my computer anymore

Hello, My gigabank was working just fine earlier today. I saved a project that i was working on onto it, and when I went to plug it back into my pc it wouldn't read anymore. It would say usb device unreadable, is there any way to fix this problem? Thanks!

I have an I/O Magic- MagicStor, 6 GB USB/ microdrive (?or Flash drive). It is in a square 2 x 2 inch blue case. I cannot read files on it and I do not want to format the drive because of 3 GB of valuable data which exists ofthe drive.

How do I copy or move data from this uncooperative I/O Magic drive to my HD.
I have tried to get it to read on 3 different MS-Windows XP (Professional) notebooks and one desktops. It drive hums, spins, then it locks-up the Window Explorer, and requires system reboot!

    Thanks

I just bought the same drive, transferred all my video to it. Same results the next day. Lights and fan come turn on but I can't get any computer to recgonize it. I believe that the raid controller has gone bad.

6GB USB "GIGABANK" is bankrupt. The drive was showing in device manager but could not be opened or accessed! I could not recover files from the device. I did get it to recognize in Disk Management, bit the bullet, and formatted. The drive worked fine.....until I removed it. Now I'm back to the same old problem. Downloading IO recommended drivers did not work either. *Note they were the standard usb/disk.sys drivers*

My IO magic usb drive doesn't work. It was jerked out of the usb connection and then quit working. Can the USB Connecter be replaced?

Plugged in my I/O Magic 12GB and nothing. Computer says the USB device isn't recognized. Tried pulling it out and plugging it back in...nothing. Tried it on 2 different computers with same message. Have critical data on it and can't get to it. Only had this for 8 months.

What do I do, besides never buying another I/O device again???

We are seeing alot of posts reporting problems with these USB connected portable drives. Maybe this is one of those ideas that sounded good, but results in lots of headaches, lost data. First, try the drive on another machine- see if works there. In Control panel, select Administrative Tools, Computer Management, Disk Management... Does the drive appear there? It is possible the drive needs repartitioned/reformatted (not good for your data). You could take the USB drive case apart, check the interface cabling to the drive, and try it again. If it still doesn't work, try removing the drive and installing it in a desktop computer as a slave drive. I've only had one of these USB connected drive assemblies apart, but that one used a drive with a standard 40 position ribbon cable interface, the same as what is used on pre-SATA desktop systems. If you've gone this far, you could try removing the drive from the case, and installing it in a desktop machine as a slave drive, and seeing if you can get anything off it there. Diagnostic software from the manufacturer could also be run here too. None of this may get your project back however, unfortunately. For those highly important things, a backup is really suggested- and you know why- the hard way.

Had same problem with 1TB I/O Magic Terabank. When I turned it on all I got was three tones that sounded like errors. Disconnected drive, reformatted computer with backup and everything worked fine. Pretty sure I had a virus that prevented me from using usb 2.0 connection to a mass media drive, as my other terabank wouldn't work either. Now both work great.

Gigabank powers on.....doesnt read onto my laptop.......Dell Inspiron 1525, that of which used to work fine at one time......cant retrieve any of my files....

From your description it sounds like your GigaBank is damaged. You can check if there are problems with the drive using the free trial version of http://www.hdtune.com/

If it checks out ok then you can try to recover your data with Recuva it's free http://www.piriform.com/recuva

Or if you need data recovery help this a good choice for low cost and fast data recovery. All data recovery work is performed by an experienced tech remotely over the Internet from a boot cd that you download and the best part is they just ask for donations: http://FreeDataRecovery.us

How can I get this device to read on an xbox 360?

Step 1: Connect your hard drive to your PC.
Step 2: Create a FAT32 partition on your hard drive. If you’re using less than 32 GB, you can use Windows via “Control panel > Administrative tools > Computer Management”. If you’re using more than 32 GB, you’ll have to use an external program, e.g. Partition Magic.
Step 3: Load all the content you want from your PC onto the external drive. This should consist of files that can be read on the Xbox hard drive.
Step 4: Remove the external hard drive from your PC. Plug it into your Xbox 360 console through the USB port.
Step 5: Go to the Media menu on your Xbox screen. Select "Portable Device" from the menu. All the readable files saved on the external drive should be available to read on your Xbox 360.
N.B. Xbox's connection with an external drive is read-only. You can only read files that are already on the drive after connecting. You can't save game files or anything else on the Xbox main drive onto the external hard drive. Also, USB storage devices cannot be used for Xbox live marketplace content.

Re magic 8 gigabank: How do format the disc - wipe

You should be able to format the drive by right clicking on the drive and selecting format from the context menu. Normally it will select the same format type when you do this. I would get the properties first (right click | Properties) and then when you choose format make sure it is selecting the same type.

There are other options, but this is the easiest. Let me know what happens.

Computer does not read my gigabank 8.0; no access to data

hi,

These drives are pretty sturdy but it sounds like the USB control circuit may be dead.

If this is the case what to do next comes down to what's on the drive. If there is nothing important on the drive which isn't backed up somewhere else. Buy a new one for $30 and recopy the file on the new one. If you need the files on it you can send it out for data recovery, anywhere from $100-$1500 depending on which part failed. I know a few places able to help you if you need this option. If you need the pros reply back with your Country, State and City and I will refer you to an appropriate pro for the job.

Hope this helps FixYa,

Chris

GigaBank 250 GB USB 2.0 External hard Drive - How to open case ?

Remove the cover plate from behind the drive (where the plugs and on/off switch are.) You have to then remove the 2 screws. After that pull on the end with the blue lights to slide the hard drive out. If you have a tower computer, you can permanently install the hard drive and it should work fine as a secondary drive. Just make sure the jumper pins are set to "slave".

Can not open Gigabank 8gb in windows xp

Read this article but only the Response section from

Wow, you have purchased a "magical" device
that judging from the response from other owners like
you, its a disappointing investment :)

When you decide to crack it open and take the CompactFlash card to your card reader, you should aware
that you will suffer greater risks of damaging it, okay?
I have warned you :)
