Packard Bell PC: iMedia B2217: DVD lid flaps down but drive wont' open. First time I've used it so is it me or is it broken?
There should be a little pinhole located under the door on the bottom of the tray. Push a paperclip in the hole to get the tray open. After the tray opens, close it and see if you can open it normally, if not it's broken and needs replacing.
If the tray didn't pop out or if after getting it out it failed to work I'm afraid you need a new one. They are not very expensive and easy to replace if your machine is no longer under warranty. If it is, I'd strongly encourage you to contact the store you bought it from for service.
Sounds like the right thing 2 do; Please leave a rating on the effectiveness of my help, tyvm

Thank you, I will try this.
I found the pinhole and did as instructed ... the drive "almost sprung to life" a couple of times, but essentially nothing happened.
Thanks. I'll contact the store and get a replacement PC.
