First, make sure there is not a paper jam. This printer can have a paper jam in many places and you need to remove any doors or covers to look for paper. If you are sure that there is not one, then it could be a faulty sensor. Not good news becasue it will probably be cheaper to buy a new one than get it fixed.
Power your printer off and unplug it. Try manually feeding a sheet of heavy weight paper (cardstock) through the paper path to help push out any torn scraps of paper left from a previous jam, or any staples or paper clips etc that may have fallen into the paper path. You may need to do this multiple times. You can also try blowing in canned air to remove and paper dust that might be laying on the sensors causing a false jam message. Good luck!
Sounds to me like there is something in the paper chanel, a staple, paper clip or something small enough to get in there. Have you tried turning the printer upside down and lightly tapping the side to see if anything falls out?
My DELL A940 printer used to jam every time with the paper pulling to the right. Solution - there was a pen jammed in the mechanism ! I was about to trash the printer when I looked deep into the workings from above, holding the printer to the window to get bright sunlight into it. I could see a round ballpen laying in the groove at the bottom. Hooked the pen out and all is back to normal. This may not be your problem, but its worth a look.
To fix the Paper jam issue please try the steps below: To fix the paper Jam errors please try the following steps: 1. Confirm that no foreign materials are inside the machine. 2. Confirm that usable paper is set. 3. Confirm that the paper is set properly. 4. Confirm that recommended paper is used, and the number of sheets set does not exceed the required limit.
5. Confirm that the paper trey Guides are ste in such a way that it is equal to the size of the paper, it should be set exat to fit the paper. 5. Disconnect the printer power cord as well as the printer cable form the printer. 6. Turn the printer upside down and shake the printer in order to remove any obstacle which is stuck inside the printer causing the paper jam error. Open the printer cover and remove the cartridges and check carefully if there is any small piece of paper which is stuck inside, if so remove it carefully. 7. Disconnect the printer power cord and press and hold the power button on the printer for about 15 to 20 seconds( this will release the flee power) and reconnect the printer and check.
If the above mentioned steps do not fix the issue please up-grade the printer firmware form the Support.dell.com web site. However make sure that you do not turn off either your printer or computer when you are downloading and installing the printer firmware.
