Question about Yahoo Mail

1 Answer

I have not been able to access my email all day today, and this is not the first time. Other sites that check these things say that the site is UP. Not for me. The page does not come up, and when it finally appears, it disappears the moment I click on an email message, with a box either saying that I've timed out or that I need to re-enter my password. My password doesn't work to open the account, either. I have had this same Yahoo account for years without any issues, but ever since the new format was forced on me (a format that I intensely dislike, by the way--how the heck do I save a draft? And I can't stand having an ongoing message string/history with a person), there's been one problem after another with my email account. I'm very upset because, like most people, I depend upon email for important notifications and business, both personal and professional. Don't bother emailing me back, Yahoo, with your solution to my--I mean *your*-- problem. I likely won't be able to open it, which is ridiculous. Tomorrow I'm looking for another email provider. As inconvenient as switching to another provider is, it's much more convenient than going without dependable email access.

How do I go about changing to my new email address?

Kathleen, I recently got new home internet & a new email address along w/ it. And even though I still have my gmail and yahoo (email) accounts, I have started to use my new email as my primary one. So I can give you a general answer, without knowing exactly what email service you now use. If you use one of the more popular email services (such as gmail, yahoomail, etc.), it's pretty basic and simple. For those 2 examples, you just go to the provider for gmail, for yahoomail, and register there,so you will be able to login to the site. If I remember correctly, that just requires your name, possibly also a "username" if one is asked for, your email address, and a password. But, most likely, you will need another email address (such as your previous one) in order to get a confirmation email. In that confirmation email there should be a link to click on to activate the new account and send you back to the site. Then just login. And somewhere, usually in the top upper right section (next to your name probably) will be either "mail", "email", or some type of email icon. Click on it to go to your emails. Also most sites will send you an initial "welcome" email, so you should have at least one email the first time you access your email account. Just a quick note about either gmail-Google or yahoomail, you can set up a free email account at one or both of those sites. But, again, to get the new account, you need another email that you can access to get the new email confirmed. It is also needed in case you forget your login info (or a part of it) or to change your password, etc. If you can't access your previous email, it may give you an option to get a text message by phone, a code to copy where asked for. Some sites use that method, but I'm not sure if that is done when setting up the initial login info. I've only used that method when resetting/changing a password. The best thing is just go to the main site that your new email is associated with. It should explain how to sign in/login/set up your email account there. If that doesn't work, then if you can get to a public library, someone there should be able to help you set up your new email and how to access it. The library may even have computer use, and allow you to use the library email to set up your personal email account. But if you have the new email address, then you may have already set up the account. Or your internet installer may have set up the account. I now have at&t, and the tech guy who ,did my installation (basically plugged in my modem & turned it on) also set up the account for me. I gave him the email name I wanted to use and he gave me a temporary password, then programmed it in himself. All I had to do was go to and login with that info, then change to a new password. So if your new email is thru an internet provider who gave you your email, then the account should have already been set up for you. But if you weren't given instructions how to access your email, you can contact the provider to find out. But, if it is an account that you just set up yourself (such as gmail via Google, for example), then by just going to the site where you got the email, should provide instructions explaining how to access and use the account. Then just use that email address and don't use the old one. If you had aol, but no longer use it, then you probably closed or cancelled that account. And at that time, aol probably stopped access to that email address, so it was automatically cancelled. And you shouldn't have to inform them to close that email address. So you just use the new email and don't worry 'bout or use the old one. Sorry this got so complicated. Thought it would be so simple to explain, but because I don't know which provider you NOW have, I wasn't sure exactly what to suggest. And also because I've been up all night & pretty tired/sleepy, so maybe I've rambled somewhat. In any case, I do hope that some part of this was helpful and answered your question. If not, my apologies. But if you still don't get a useful answer, then I'm Charles and contact me at Tell me what provider you use and if I don't know about it, I'll do my best to find out for you. This is my first time on this site. And I'm just someone who tries to help others, and do at least one small kindness for someone else each day. Since I wasn't going out today, I thought I'd provide an answer as a way to help today. But as I may NOT have really helped, then I feel as if I need to complete this task. If I did help, then that's it. But if not, and you can't get a useful/helpful answer from someone else, then I can't just leave you hanging. If you still need help, then I have to finish what I started. Silly, but I'm very old-fashioned with this "rescue-damsel-in-distress" complex. And although this is such a small, minor thing, I still can't leave you "half-rescued" so to speak. I set out to help, and if you still need more help, it's my duty to provide my help until you have the correct answer. So if you still need more info or help, just let me know. I'll do my best to help. (NOTE: I sometimes don't check my email for days, so if I'm not back in touch promptly, that's why. And also why if you need a quick answer or help, then please try other options. Maybe one I've suggested, or a better, more useful answer from someone else. OK?

Why cant I login into my account ?

Here are some things to check:
  • Are you online? Check by visiting a site you don't have to log-in to, like
  • Do you have CAPS LOCK key on? This will make all lower case characters into UPPER case, which can cause problems.
  • Some laptops have a NUM LOCK feature which turns a portion of the keyboard into a numeric keypad, so when you think you are typing 'asd' you are actually typing '456'. Check for lights that might show this feature is active. Check the manual to see how to disable it (or power off and on again).
  • Is your username correct? Many sites these days use your email address as your username, so try that.
  • Is your password correct?
  • Has your password expired? Some sites/systems do this. In this case you may have to contact the site/system admin via email.
  • Is it a restricted site/system? Sometimes you need to be on a particular network - e.g. to access company systems you may need to connect to their network via VPN. Also some sites/systems may restrict access to particular IP addresses or MAC addresses. In this case, you need to be using the same computer you used when you last were able to login successfully.
  • Is your account locked? This can happen when you make too many attempts to login with the wrong password. Usually you can wait a few minutes/hours and try again.
  • Could someone else have gained access to your account? It may be possible that someone has accessed your account and changed the password. If you think this is a possibility you should contact the system/site admin via email and request your password to be reset. Usually this will mean they send a new password to your email account.
  • Logging in to your PC is sometime not possible if the system is 'frozen' - this can be caused by programs running in the background that use all your computer's resources. In this case, you can wait a few hours or power off and on again.

Cannot get to the site at all. Says there is a problem with the website...anyone else having issues?

I was able to access just fine. Try accessing their site at different times during the day. Sometimes they perform site maintenance which will cause you not to be able to view their site. Also make sure when you are typing in the full correct address. I'm sure you have but sometimes little things like this can be overlooked.

If the problem still continues, try accessing that site through a different route. Here is the full website address to that page:

Let me know if this does not work for you and we can further troubleshoot this for you.
I hope this information help you.

I have not received emails sent to me in the last three days what steps should i take?

Glad to HELP YOU!

I'd suggest you to do TWO things:
1. to check the BULK/SPAM folder too; maybe the messages got there. It happens sometimes even the senders are people you are communicating with many times;
2. verify if the last few days the server(s) where your e-mail account was created on were not DOWN. It happens too many times - even with well-known web sites. This case you even may write a message to the site administrator (usually the address is something like "") and ask him if the last few days the servers had had some technical problems.

I have a facebook account but i can not open the facebook.i typed my correct email and password.

Ensure you type in the correct email address (complete with or whatever).
Also make sure you type the correct password (ensure caps lock is not enabled).

If you are still unable to access it then maybe it is just a temporary Facebook site issue.

The site occasionally blocks access for a certain chunk of users temporarily so that the staff can carry out routine maintenance procedures and software updates on those accounts. These lockout periods are normal and can last anywhere from a few hours to a day or two. Just try again tomorrow.

If the problem persists for more than a few days then click on the FORGOT YOUR PASSWORD? link on the main Facebook login page, follow the instructions, and check your registered email account for password reset instructions.

Good luck.

TODAY everytime I try to open an email in my account, it goes to youcansearch, com without opening the mail??

Close Internet Explorer
Click Start
Click All Programs
Click Accessories
Click System Tools
Click "Start Internet Explorer (no add-ons)"
Access Yahoo, and check your E-mail.
If it works, then one of the "add-on" programs is "hijacking" your web-browser.

Or, you've got a computer-virus on your computer.

It has changed the file: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC\HOSTS

to access 'youcansearch' (by IP-address) when you try to access the Yahoo web-site.

Hello and thank you for using Fixya's services.

I have seen around ten questions just like yours today. What email service are you using? This sounds like a problem with the server on the emaill side. It should go back to norm in a few days if not sooner.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
