There is a drain hole in the side (probably) of the garbage disposal which must be manually "punched out" in order to attach the hose from the dishwasher to the garbage disposal and thereby allow for draining. Think of this as the dishwasher piggy-backing on the existing drain system for the sink/garbage disposal. I am certain this will solve your problem.

Double check what you have done, you may have let something get into the pump jamming the impeller inside it, well thats where to start looking based on the info given

My gld6500l dishwasher worked fine, then my husband replaced a broken garbage disposal. The next day I ran my dishwasher and it now will not drain. Coincidence, or could the two be related?

Yes probably a connection. The dishwasher drain connects to the the Garbage disposal . If the line is kinked then the dishwasher will not drain. Plus the dishwasher has to have a plug knocked out where the drain line goes into the garbage disposal. I am sure this is your problem.

Dishwasher overflowed, garbage disposal still works. Ran the dishwasher and noticed food and debris shooting back into sink thru garbage disposal. Water was on floor. Upon completion of full cycle, water...

Before loading into the machine you have to remove food particles. Washer will wash the greasy surface. If particles are left in the dishes, the same will find entry to the drain system. Check the drain filter in your machine. Clean them. Mostly problem will be solved!

2 weeks ago, I had a plumber come and put in a new garbage diposer and since then somewhat old/dirty water seems to be sitting at the bottom after all cycles are done. I calle dhim back and he says that...

There is a breakaway stub in the garbage disposal's dishwasher hose port, it needs to be removed before connecting the dishwasher drain hose when installing the disposal.
Disconnect the dishwasher drain hose at the disposal, get a screwdriver and, insert in the disposal's dishwasher drain port and tap on it with hammer until it breaks off. Then remove that stub from the sink side.

Water is puddeling on the bottom of my 18 yr. old GE dishwasher

HI. check the following areas for faults.

1. Air gap / Drain hoses
If there is an air gap (located in the sink, near the faucet), check to see if it is clogged. Unscrew the top cap and see if there is anything blocking inside. Note: If there is no air gap installed, the dishwasher might not drain properly.

If the drain hose is clogged, the dishwasher would not drain. If there is an air gap installed, it is very common that a hose going from the air gap into the garbage disposer is clogged. Remove and clean the hose. Make sure to reattach the hose before starting the dishwasher.

Note: If you recently had a garbage disposer installed, it is common to overlook removing the drain plug.

2. Broken belt
Some dishwasher models use a belt to drive the pump. Replace the belt if found broken.

Note: Sometimes the belt would just come off the pump. Even though it might not be broken, it is recommended that you replace the belt, because it is probably too stretched out.

3. Pump
Some models have two impellers inside the pump - one, wash impeller, takes care of the wash cycles, the other, drain impeller, drains the water out. If the drain impeller is broken (broken blades, shaft), the dishwasher would not drain. Replace any broken pump components.

4. Drain solenoid
Some models (for example most GE dishwashers) use a drain solenoid to drain water out. Sometimes the solenoid gets stuck, preventing the water from draining out. Try to free up the solenoid. If unsuccessful, you might have to replace the pump assembly.

5. Motor
If the motor is stuck, it is sometimes possible to free it up by manually spinning the motor.

Replace the motor if defective.

6. Timer
Replace if defective (note: uncommon problem).

GE profile dishwasher won't drain

Common cause of this problem is a partially blocked drain line. Disconnect drain line and make sure entire path is clear, including where it connects to the sink drain or garbage disposal. Also, make sure all screens and the drain area at the bottom of the dishwasher are completely clear.

The water won't drain out of the bottom of the dishwasher. I don't see an air gap device. It's a GE Profile GSD1900 dishwasher.

do you hear the pump humming? check the lines going to your garbage disposal. take the hose off of the disposal and get a bucket put the drain hose in the bucket. what happens?

Not draining

Cat, did you remove the knockout on the disposer? If not, take a long screw driver where the drain hooks up and give it a whack. Pull the knock-out out of the disposer. It sounds like too much of a coincidence. Catriver.
