Aquirring Satellites I've had my streetpilot C340 for a few days now, and every time I turn the unit on it takes the unit about 8 to 10 minutes to find the satellites. Any suggestions?

Re: Aquirring Satellites

Go to the Garmin website and make sure you have the latest software for this unit.  There was a fix issued earlier this year that specifically improved satellite acquisition time.

Re: Aquirring Satellites

Buy an external antenna; they are much stronger than the internal ones, and you can magnet-mount it on the roof of the car, snaking the wire out a door. That solved the problem on my techno-challenged front window.

Re: Aquirring Satellites

Hope you do not have a "heat reducing" window in your car. This will prevent a good satellite fix. With these windows there a some places where you'll get a better reception.

My c340 stops at "locating satellites". I reset it

If your StreetPilot c300 or c500 series device is no longer acquiring satellites please read the article linked below to ensure that this is not being caused by something in your environment:

Why won't my unit acquire satellites?

If after reading the above article your unit is still having problems, please ensure that your unit's software is up to date. You can do this by using our WebUpdater® program.

If you have tried all of the above suggestions and your unit is still not acquiring satellites, you can perform a master reset by doing the following:

Note: A master reset will erase all waypoints or favorites and will restore your unit to the default factory settings.
  1. Start with the unit powered OFF and unplugged from power.
  2. Touch and hold the bottom right corner of the touchscreen.
  3. Power the unit ON and continue pressing the screen until a new message displays, "Do You Really Want To Erase All User Data?".
  4. Touch Yes and go through the set up again.
Take the unit outside and let it set with a clear view of the sky for 3-5 minutes to acquire satellites. If the unit still does not acquire satellites after this, please contact Garmin Product Support.

How do you set the time on a c340?

Question: The time is not correct on my StreetPilot. How do I set it?
I think one of these 2 may help you.... --> Answer: The GPS unit acquires the time from satellites. Therefore, to display the correct time, the StreetPilot first needs to acquire satellites. You can then set the time zone and daylight savings time.
To set the time zone and daylight savings time:
  1. Press the Menu button two times.
  2. Select System Setup.
  3. Select the Time tab.
  4. Select the time zone and daylight savings preference.

I used the Garmin Web Updater download to update software on my Garmin StreetPilot C340 GPS and it now indicates that I am in Olathe KS...I am in ND. How do I fix that?

Have you been outside with the unit since the update? Usually when you take the unit outside and turn it on, it reads the satellites and gets it's location from those.

GPS looses direction in city streets

If you are driving in a city with a lot of tall buildings, trees or elevated trains, the unit will lose the signal from the satellites. This is due to the GPS receiver used on the C340. It may help to place the unit in WAAS (Wide Area Augmentation System) mode. This uses ground information as well as satellites to help you navigate. Good luck.

Will not pick up satellites

Without more information, it is hard to help. However, when we bought ours, we had trouble getting the unit to locate the satellites. The fix, was to get in the car and drive with it for about 15 to 20 minutes. After about 10 minutes of driving, we kept inputting our home address (we also deleted the home address between inputs). After about 4-6 attempts it finally took and located the satellites. it has worked exceptionally well since then.

Garmin C340 startup

The clue is that the voice is slowing and low pitch. The main processor time base has slowed... which means everything will be buggy.

First try would be to Reset the unit. Remove the face cover (GENTLY pry it loose by the fingernail groove directly under the GARMIN logo), press the RESET button, then reattach front cover... this is covered in the owners manual, available online.
If not, then it sounds like a hardware failure... time for a 1-800-800-1020 call (their customer service number)
