Desktop screen is stretched abnormally

Here we go...go to an open are on your DESKTOP->PROPERTIES->SETTINGS->SCREEN RESOLUTION->SLIDE IT TO 1024X768->APPLY->OK
close and reboot...
now if it is better but not exactly what you like repeat the process and choose another setting one to the right...and see if you like it better.
If only your desktop is out of proportion then that is a little different:
again right click in an open area, properties, desk top, Position,
use the drop down arrow and choose center...apply and then OK
and that will fix that..

Due to the fact that your device has a Wide-screen monitor. you will have to choose the sizes in between the standard ratio. Here's list depending on if your device is 16:9 or 16:10 as well as standard ratio's:
