Question about Avaya Lands Phones

Avaya 1608-l showing error ' extension in use # to register'. But once we reconfigure with the new extension it is showing the same error? How i can solve this. Please help me!

SOURCE: moved user, need to change extension at new desk for avaya 2420 phone

Have your system admin movethe extensions ports. You have a definity or S87xx series.....that is the only way.

My guess is that the wires from the phone system are not connected to the jacks you are plugging into. But to verify, try plugging a display phone into the same jacks. That will prove the theory.

If that is the case you will need to connect the new phones into the phone system.

There were problems with the 16xx series, so they were discontinued. They have a new 16xx-i series with updated firmware.

Not much you can do.

Our phones are avaya 2410 phones, I moved one user from one office to another, how can I have that users original extension follow to the new office.


You need to go into programming and move the 2 extensions in Manager.
Once moved in Manager, at each phone dial *36 to force the change.

Using AVAYA IPO 500 R6 V2 IN 1616 and 1608


Check the IPO software is installed correctly and see if the most up to date software is installed, current software version 6.1 for this model.
Uninstall previous version or current version. Then Reinstall the newest version.(6.1)
Should take of any problems you are having with the phone. Since you have replaced it once, the problem lies in the software not hardware.

Extension Error when setting up new phone


Look in programming, does that extension exist? If not create it. Or, turn on "auto create extension"

I have some Avaya 1608 phones where the volume fades in and out, AGC enabled/disabled with no difference.


There were problems with the 16xx series, so they were discontinued. They have a new 16xx-i series with updated firmware.

Not much you can do.

Talk to your system administrator. The password is set by them and can be anything....

It is waiting for you to register the phone. Enter your extension number, followed by #, then the password followed by #.

If you dont know password, contact the phone system admin.
