Question about Honeywell TH6220D1028 FocusPRO 6000 5-1-1 Day Programmable Thermostat, Dual Sta

1 Answer

I am replacing a Honeywell T8611g thermostat with an Honeywell TH6220D1028 FocusPro. My system has a heat pump and is wired as follows: R - Red C - Blue G - Green O/B - Orange Y1 - Yellow W1 - Jumper to Y1 W2 - White My understanding was that W1 and W2 are for heat relays (stage 1 and 2) and only used for conventional. The problem with the new thermostat is that it W and O/B occupy the same terminal depending on if using conventional or heat pump. Thanks in advance for any help.

Right below the w setting on the base plate is the o/b connection. Put the O wire in this slot. During the initial test for heat and cool, the bias for cool for function 2 is 0 and for heat it is 1. To reach the programming press fan and Up arrow. Press next to reach function 2. Be aware the the O wire is energized and operates the reversing valve. Some manufacturers energizes the reversing valve to go into cooling, and some leave it deenergized to be in cooling. Select either 0 or 1 to make the system perform in the correct mode.
Hope this helps.

Look at the base plate just below the w position. This is the correct placement for heat pumps.

FocusPro TH5000 will not cool

Make sure the thermostat is set to "cool" mode. Make sure the thermostat is wired correctly and has fresh batteries in it. Check both the thermostat end and the air handler end of the wires. If All this checks out, the problem is most likely in the air conditioner, not the thermostat.

I have a Trane heat pump, model #TWP060C300A and a Trane air handler, model #TWE065E130A. Heat pump is 5.0 ton, split system. Air handler has a variable speed motor and a 20Kw 3-phase auxiliary heat strip....

Honeywell Chronotherm thermostats have always had a great reputation for longevity and reliability. They are also much more user-friendly than the other types of programmable thermostats out there. Make sure you get one that states 2-stage heat, heat pump. T8611G will offer that for you. There are many out there that claim to be suitable for heat pumps; however, they do not have the ability to utilize your auxiliary heat strips (2nd stage of heat).
Before you attempt to replace, be sure to write the wire colors and their corresponding terminal marking on a sheet of paper........of your old thermostat. This is very important to make it easier to hook up the new thermostat. Also, before you disconnect the wires, be sure to shut off the circuit breaker to your air handling unit. You can ensure you have the right one by putting the fan switch in "ON". When you turn off the right breaker, the fan will stop running. :-)

I hope you find this information to be very helpful to you. Please don't forget to leave a rating.

if you have a meter on the indoor unit locate the transformer and check to see if getting 24v ac on the secondary side the primary side should be 220 most of the time their is only one of the wires that would of causes a short red to common the rest just transfer voltage to make the circuit some boards have a 5 amp fuse that will blow and some transformers have a reset button on the 5000 stat make sure that you are putting the wires in correct slots due to having two configurations conventional and heat pump
