Polaris 400 sportsman 2001

My engine overheat light comes on, fan is running but coolant is bubbling in reserve tank, any ideas???

Sounds like you need to flush your system may have dirt and crap in the fans of your cooling system

Your thermostat is bad. The default position is" on" so that you don't burn up your engine if it goues out when your running.

you probly need a new heat sensor, its located on the bottom right of your rad, i had the same problem with my 700 the fan only worked when it was already over heating, i cut the wires flush at the sensor drilled a hole above the key switch and mounted a toggle switch, no more over heating,

hot battery but no crank , instument cluster just flashes and we hear a buzzing noise like a fuel pump.
if we hook up a battery charger instrument cluster stops flashing and hot light flashes. any help is appreciated.

My 2001 sportsman 400 will not go over 20mph what should I do?


replace fuel filter. check spark plug. fuel has waste in it bad fuel maybe.. has it been setting a long time. remove sediment bowl from carb. should at least drain the carb and catch the fuel from the drain. examine fuel caught for bubbles in bottom of fuel container. air filter clean? adj timing ? does it smoke when running? backfire? choke off ?

Engine'' hot'' light came on, i stopped and the fan was not on, by-passed the fan switch ,connected it to acc power so fan would remain on when key was in on position. engine cooled down and off i went. 5...


I cant solve your problem, but I have a problem with my "hot" light coming on. I left my lights on for 3 weeks, so my battery was junked. When I replaced the battery my fan kicks on with just the turn of the key, and the hot light flashes even though the engine has'nt been running. Polaris 08

My fan doesn't com on and the engine overheats already replaced the fuse was not that


Was the fuse blown? Turn on the A/C and see if fan comes on, if not get a rod or some other object and rap on the fan motor, if it runs or attempts to run, the motor is bad.

It overheats i changed the thermostat and flushed the radiator on my 1996 cadillac


check fan operation to make sure the fan is coming on. And if it is is it at the correct temp ? If fan not coming on check relay and coolant temp switch.

My car overheat after radiator overhaul, what else could possible cause the overheat? Everytime I use the aircon the temperature gauge rises unusual. Thank you


When the car is completely cool,check the electric fan(s) for smooth rotation.

Clean/check/change the thermo sensor,contact and wire.

Excavate air pocket in coolant system / check for head gasket leak

This test will kill two birds with one stone.

MAKE SURE THE COOLANT SYSTEM and ENGINE IS COLD!

RAN THIS TEST IN A WELL VENTILATED AREA ONLY!

You will spill some coolant during this air pocket purge test.......BE KIND TO THE ENVIRONMENT and ANIMAL please clean up after the test!

Put the front end on a pair of ramp or park your car on a VERY STEEP HILL (radiator facing top of the hill) .

Top of the coolant reserve tank

Let it ran for 10-15 minutes.

Monitor for air pockets escaping from coolant reserve tank.

Small amount of bubbles is OK at 1-5 minute mark

After the thermostat open up (after 195 F warm up) at
5-12 minute mark or after high idle you should see less bubbles.

If you do not see any in rush of bubbles then your thermostat may be partially stuck or rusted badly inside the thermostat hosing.

Give the thermostat host few gentle taps.

If you see larger bubbles surfacing after 15 minutes then should do a hydrocarbon (HC) dye test to test for potential head gasket leak.

Let engine cold down and top off coolant reserve tank.

Start monitor for coolant lost

A coolant flush is require every 2 years or 24,000 miles.

I recommend the thermostat that has a relief pop-let to reduce the change of burst radiator and coolant hoses.

Make sure you get a new thermostat gasket,black RTV and fresh coolant for the job.

Overheats when idiling and overheats , cools down , overheats when driving. Have replaced the thermostat but is still doing the same thing. There are no apparent waterleaks. No water in the oil and runs...

Overheats, fan doesn't run


check fuse and relay, check your coolant to make sure it isn't low, Can you jump the fan to see if the fan will work? If fan works, possibly coolant sensor.
