Shift key is not working

You might consider using, at least tempory, a external usb keyboard with a touchpad, you can get get them at Wal-Mart for around $20.00
Otherwise consider taking it to a computer shop and have them test the keyboard and if need be order you a new one. If this computer is still under warranty then I would would talk to the support team that you purchase it from. Good Luck.

Keyboard keys wont type. used on screen keyboard to type this. any suggestions?

You might have "sticky keys" so try this:
When sticky keys are enabled, users can access functions that require pressing multiple modifier keys such as "Ctrl," "Alt" and "Shift" at once by pressing one button at a time. If sticky keys are enabled, it is possible to accidentally turn them on at an unwanted time. After turning off the sticky keys, disable the feature to prevent them from accidentally turning on again.

    • Press the "Shift" button five times in a row to turn off sticky keys.

    • Open the "Start" menu and then click "Control Panel."

    • Click "Ease of Access Center" from within the Control Panel window.

    • Click "Make The Keyboard Easier To Use" from within the Ease of Access Center window.

    • Remove the check-mark beside "Turn On Sticky Keys" to prevent sticky keys from being accidentally turned on.

    • Click "Apply" to save your changes and then click "OK" to close the window.
Hope this helps. Good Luck!

The.spacebar.stopped..working.

If your space bar isn't responding when you press it, or if it responds sluggishly, it's possible that you have inadvertently enabled the "Sticky Keys" or "Filter Keys" accessibility option in Windows.

When these options are enabled, your keyboard response time will be dramatically slowed and may require more than one tap to register a keystroke.

Fortunately, it's easy to disable these functions and return your keyboard to normal working order.

Click "Start" and select "All Programs."

Click "Accessories" and select "Ease of Access."

Click "Ease of Access Center."

Click "Make Keyboard Easier to Use."

Click "Set Up Sticky Keys." Deselect the checkbox that says "Turn on Sticky Keys When Shift is Pressed Five Times." Make sure the box that says "Turn on Sticky Keys" is not checked. Click "OK" to save your changes.

Click "Set Up Filter Keys." Uncheck the box that says "Turn on Filter Keys."

Click on the checkbox next to "Turn On Filter Keys When Right Shift Is Pressed For 8 Seconds" to deselect it. Click "OK" to save your changes.

Click "OK" again to save all of the keyboard accessibility changes you have made.

Hope this helps

Turning off my green keys on HP pavilion desktop keyboard?

Hi,

How to turn off Sticky Keys: disable the Ease of Access feature
Tip: use the Windows Ease of Access Center

How to turn off Sticky Keys: what are Sticky Keys and why turn them off?
Sticky Keys is a Windows Ease of Access feature that makes it possible to use keyboard shortcuts or type capital letters without needing to press more than one key at once. Normally, you'd hold down the Shift key while pressing a letter to type a capital, or hold down the Ctrl key while pressing 'S' to save a document. It's even trickier if you want to use a shortcut such as Ctrl-Alt-Del or Ctrl-Shift-Esc.

With Sticky Keys, you can press Ctrl, Shift or Alt, let go and then press another key - Windows will interpret this as pressing two keys together. You should also hear a beep if you have speakers connected.

That's great if you're disabled and can't press two keys at once, but what if you want to disable Sticky Keys?

How to turn off Sticky Keys in Windows 8
You can't press Shift another five times. Instead, you need to bring up the Start menu (or Start screen in Windows 8) by pressing the Windows key. Now type "ease of access" and click on Ease of Access in the list of results.

If you're using Windows 8, you need to click on the Ease of Access Keyboard settings result, and then it's a simple case of sliding the Sticky Keys toggle to 'off'.

If this does not help you. Let us know the below details to understand the issue bettery.

What is the OS?

What do you mean by hot keys? ex.......

Sticky keys how do i fix it?

Hi Dgr Welcome to fix ya !

The sticky keys are part of Windows Ease of Access Center Accessibility program.

1. The easiest way to enable/disable the sticky keys is to press the "Shift " key five times. This will turn on/turn off the program.

2. The second way is to press the Windows logo key + U at the same time. This will open the Ease of Access Center. Then select the link that reads" Make the keyboard easier to use."

3. Under the section that reads, "Make it easier to type" you have the option to enable the Sticky Keys or a link to Set Up Sticky Keys. Select whether you want to set up the Sticky Keys or just enable them if you have previously set them up. If setting them up for the first time, remember to click "Apply" after making your selections.

Hope this helps. If you need further assistance, just leave a comment at the end of this solution and I'll be glad to help. Thanks for using Fix Ya.

My Dell laptop keyboard settings have apparently been changed-I have to hold down the Fn key to get the letters on the keyboard instead of the Fn items indicated on the keyboard. How do I fix it?

Maybe this is the result of inadvertently turning on "Sticky keys" (see the Accessibility Control Panel Help file). Try holding the Fn key down for several seconds with no other key pressed to see if that turns off the Fn lock-on. After that you can disable the Sticky Keys function in Accessibility.

Some kes not working. help!!!

Hi,
If the problem is intermittent then the problem could just be foreign objects like crumbs and hair that's trapped under the keys.

Turn the laptop off and stand it on it's side with the lid open. Get a soft, dry paintbrush and brush the keys, gently tap the keyboard in various places with the back of the paintbrush to help dislodge anything that's trapped.

Once your satisfied all the keys are clear turn the laptop on and see if it has made any difference.

If it has not then you may need to replace the keyboard.

Good luck.
