I had a device (I forget the brand name) but I could not find the code. There is a way to check all the codes one by one and it didn't take me very long. I can't remember exactly how to do it though.
it was something like you enter this one specific code that allows you to keep trying to turn the device off and each time you try it will go to the next code. When the device turns off you know you have the right code and you press a button to lock it in.
I did it through bright house but I would think that dish has something similar. I found it on the bright house website from the problem solving menu. Try looking for something similar at the dish net website.

Problem was solved by Holding down the "ENTER" button for no less than 10 seconds and after releasing it press "SYSTEM MENU". This will take you to the setup screen on your TV.
where all settings can be made from there by following the on screen directions.

Hold down Enter button on remote and while holding Enter press and hold 1 (numeric) on remote for 3 or 4 seconds, now remote is set on dvd1 mode and dvd recorder will accept its commands.
