Sounds like the switch in the memory card holder that detects whether the 'write protect' tab is engaged may be broken broken.

SOURCE: PHOTOS ON INTERNAL MEMORY - HOW DO I TRANSFER THEM TO CARD SO THAT I CAN GET THEM PRINTED AT SHOP?

Hi KarenB,
Not sure if anyone ever got back to you on this but i just had the same problem then googled it and found this
Yes, the [BACKUP] feature will transfer files from the camera's internal memory to an xD-Picture Card™ flash memory card. It does not delete those files from the internal memory. To perform a backup, insert an xD-Picture Card flash memory card into the camera and then turn the camera on. Press the [MENU] button. Press the Right arrow button to select the Setup icon, and then press the [OK] button to enter the Setup menu. Use the Up or Down arrow to select [BACKUP], and then press [OK].

SOURCE: My camera keeps saying write protect when i turn

Remove the memory card and look for a near-microscopic slide switch along the edge of the board. If you don't find one, it may have a tab-type lock that has been activated.
If the card is not equipped with either one, it is probably dead.

What do it mean when it says card is locked

SD and Mini SD memory cards has a small slide switch on the edge of the card, which write protects photos on the memory card and prevents photos from being deleted or added to the SD card. Slide the switch from the LOCK position to the UNLOCK position, which is furthest away from the contacts and you can save photos on the memory card.

Most SD memory card have a tiny slide switch on the side of the card. If the slide swited is in the Lock position then the photos are protected and you cannot delete or add (take) photos to the SD memory card.

I have a Kodak Easy Share C182 . I want to delete some pictures and it tells me to remove protection to delete, and it also tells me image is protected please tellmje stepby step how to clear this...

The most common cause for telling you that the card is locked is having the tiny slide switch on the side of the card in the wrong position.
- see photo below:
Set the lock slider to locked or unlocked.man-3ds-sdcardlockswitch-287-181.png
  • The down position will enable write-protection, locking the card.
  • The up position will unlock the card, enabling you to save and erase data on the card

There's a tab on the side of the SD-card which sometimes slides to lock(=write protect) position when you enter the card in the reader/camera. Can you take photo's? Are you sure the tab is on 'write enable'?

This memory card is protected

Sometimes I get 'this memory card is protected warning'. It turned out that the lock on the left upper side of the SD memory card slipped down. The lock is tiny and gray on SanDisk. The lock suppose to be in upper position towards top.

HOW DO I DELETE FILES

deleting files on sd cards is the same a deleting any other file on a computer as long as the media is not protected against file deletion or file altering

usually sd cards as you used to find also in old floppy dics, have a tab or switch you need to set accordingly to allow file overwriting. inspection the sd card and make sure that the tiny switch or lock is in the off position, reinstall sd card in the reader or sd card drive and attempt to delete files by selecting them and hitting the del key or simple selecting them and right clicking to then select delete.

if the tab is in the off position try it in the "on" position and see if deletion can be accomplished. if neither works your sd card may be defective. contact the provider and have the warranty honored accordingly in within the warranty terms.

The camera says Memory card is write protected and will not let me take a photo or delete any photos. How do i delete all of the photos on the memory card?

If it is an SD memory card, check for a little white tab on the left side. Chances are that somehow it got pushed down to the 'write protect' mode. Move it back up and you should be good to go! Good luck.

Cant delete

Well... If it's telling you that it's write-protected, then you most likely have an SD memory card in the memory card slot.

Take this card out of the memory slot. Inspect the memory card for a small, white tab on the side of the card. Notice that this tab slides up and down. Move it in the opposite direction of it's current position.

Insert the card into the camera, turn it on and see what happens then.

Keep in mind that the camera also has built-in flash memory. If it wasn't the SD memory card, then perhaps there is a setting in the camera's options that was used to write-protect the internal memory as well? (Doubt that's the case with the internal memory, however. Never heard of a camera doing that before.)

I'm sure that checking the mem card and sliding the white tab forward will fix your problem. Let us know.

Nikon Coolpix 5200 Getting Message ""Memory Card is Write Protected"

Inspect your SD card carefully. Some SD cards come with a write-protect lock switch on the side of the card. When looking at an SD card from the top there is one required notch on the right side (the side with the diagonal notched corner) and on the left side there is usually a switch. This is the write-protect switch. When this write-protect switch is in the down position (away from the end that is inserted) then it is write protected and read-only. When the switch is in the up position it is write enabled.
