clover or leaf-like ornament with four lobes found in the logo is called a Quatrefoil.
It is found throughout the architecture of our building. It is most prominent
in stone work above the main entrance. You will see it at the top of the Gethsemane
window. This shape has sometimes been interpreted to represent the four Gospels
- Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.
The shadow effect around
the Quatrefoil represents diversity and growth, which are a part of our mission.
four diamond shapes, also a Quatrefoil, represent the four traditions that came
together in 1957 to form our denomination, the United Church of Christ. Those
traditions are: Christian, Congregational, Evangelical, and Reformed. St. John
Church was originally part of the Evangelical tradition. The uneven or jagged
edges represent movement, calling us to always move forward with the spiritual,
compassionate, nurturing, worshiping, learning, and fellowship focus of our mission.
Hope this helps. from fixya
