I'm holding one in y hand now. Let's see. There! On the back just above the i in Galaxie is a very small arrow that points to a grove on the side of the back plate. I can't open it with my finger nail. Let's try this very small flat tip screwdriver. Ah, got it. I hope this helps.

You might be able to pop it open with a pocket knife ... don't stab yourself though.

The 377 battery is located behind the CR2016 battery. You will have to completely remove the motherboard to change out this battery that runs the analog portion of the watch.

Change battery in Elgin watch FQ024-007

The back of this watch doesn't pry off, it screws off.
I used the open tip of a needle-nose pliers to unscrew the back of the watch by inserting the the tips into opposing grooves in the back of the watch and turning it counter-clockwise.

Once the back of the watch is off, there are a few slotted screws that appear to hold a metal cover over the back of the watch 'guts', you'll need a jeweler's screwdriver to remove these screws (I counted 3 of them).

The battery is right under this cover.

When re-assembling the watch, I would apply a thin coat of sewing machine oil, or some other non-reactive lubricant, to the black gasket seal which should be on the back cover of the watch.

Need to add links to a new Elgin watch band. The number on back of watch is SR626sw

That's the battery number for the watch also known as the #377. It's the most common watch battery in the world. Your model number is located at the bottom of the dial (face) below the six-o'clock position. You will need a 10 power jeweler's loupe or magnifying glass to see it and read it. Jot down the number and contact Elgin directly (MZ Berger Co,) for the extra links.

I have a Elgin Pocket Watch that i cannot open to get to the movement and serial number. The company "logo" is in Cursive Elgin Natl. Watch Co. and the winding stem is in the 3 oclock position....

The back is probably a screw on back like the front bezel. If it doesn't come off easily take it to a watchmaker rather than doing damage. Try placing the watch in the palm of your hand and place the other palm on top of the watch. Like a sandwich. Now try twisting the back loose. Lefty loosey.. righty tighty! If you get it open be very careful. Remember the watchmaker's motto. DO NO DAMAGE!
Good luck

I JUST PURCHASED A NEW ELGIN LADIES WATCH ONLINE AND IT NOT WORKING. WHAT DO I DO?

If you are able to, send it back where you got it, most companuies have 30day return policies...if its been longer take it to a reputable jeweler or watchmaker and have the battery replaced...sometimes watches have been sitting in a warehouse for awhile before they are sold and the batteries have run down.

Elgin Westminster Quartz Chime clock won't work

IF I GATHER CORRECTLY , YOUR CLOCK HAS TWO BATTERIES, ONE AT BASE AND ANOTHER ON THE BACK OF THE UNIT. THE ONE ON THE BACK OF THE UNIT IS RESPONSIBLE FOR CLOCK'S FUNCTIONALITY AND I THINK THE BATTERY AT BASE IS FOR THE ROTATING BALLS ( PENDULUM ). SO OPEN UP THE BACK IF YOU HAVE NOT DONE SO, AND REPLACE THE BATTERY. CAREFULLY THOUH AS THERE RE TWO SCREWS ON TOP AND A SNAP AT CENTER BOTTOM WHICH YOU COULD EASILY BREAK IF YOU DO NOT DO IT WITH CARE. OPEN UP THE SCREWS FIRST AND GENTLY USING A SCREW DRIVER PUSH BACK ON THE SNAP HOLE TO FORCE IT UPWARDS AND INWARDS. IF NONE OF THIS MAKES SENSE THEN WE ARE LOOKING AT TWO DIFFERENT CLOCKS.

HOPE THIS HELPS.

Need instruction manuel for elgin fg010-007 sports watch

The movement in this Elgin is made by Citizen. After you change the battery, you need to reset the hands so that the watch functions properly. Select chronograph function with lower-right button. Then pull-out the same button. Push the upper left button to select the UTC, hour, and minute hands. Then use lower-left and upper-right buttons to make sure everything is aligned to 12:00 position. After setting the hands to 12:00, push in lower right button. Now you can set the time by selecting the SET using the lower right button. Pull out the same button and choose your time zone to set.
