Sounds to me like it may have a malfunctioning thermostat. If you or, someone you know is comfortable with opening the covers you may find that there is a loose connection somewhere. Be sure you unplug the unit before doing this or you may electricute yourself.

Hi, Here is the link to the manual. I think something like 'thermo coupling' probably means you need a technician!

Why does red light on "on" button stay on?

Hello,
The reason the red light on your rinnai vent free gas heater stays on simply is because it is having power on it, if it is unplugged, it will go off, or if you turn off the switch from the power outlet, then it will go off too.
As long as there is power supplied to the rinnai vent free gas heater, the power light will remain on.
Take care and good luck

My rinnai 556f wont run. I turn it on and the on light quickly turns red. Also the filter light comes on even after I clean the filter.

Press the up arrow, down arrow and economy button all at the same time and hold them down for three seconds. A bunch of lights will light up under the numbers. Write them down and look in your operation manual for a diagnostic chart. I suspect a dirty filter has burnt out a overheat safety switch. I may have one if you need one. chandler@chandlerrepair.com.

I get a blinking light with the number 12 flashing on my rinnai heater

With the unit turned off, hold down on the economy button, the up arrow and down arrow all at the same time for three seconds. A number of error codes will start flashing. Copy the numbers down and repost them so we can help you. I suspect a dirty flame rod or poor gas pressure. Can you give us any info on when it fails or does it light when you turn off and back on?

My tank says I have 32 gallons left but the heater won't work (rinnai 556f). It turns on for about 15 seconds and the light on the power button turns red and starts blinking. What does this mean?

If you hold down the economy button and the up and down arrow buttons for 5 seconds the unit will start an error code display. Get a helper and yell out the numbers when they start blinking. Post the error codes and we can help you

You are half-way right, to light the pilot, light it and push down the red button and hold it for at ----least2-minutes-- till the flame heats up the pin (thermocouple- which fire-thermocouple metal makes electricity which sends it to the gas valve and says ,OK GAS VALVE,I'VE GOT A PILOT FLAME SO OPEN UP THE MAIN GAS VALVE! See where I'm going with this?
