Hood release doesn't work

Have you tried banging on the hood near the cowl or windshield, while pulling the hood latch, to see if it pops open?

If the cable is stretched or broken, you may have to get to the latch from underneath, and pry the latch with a small screwdriver-the cable will attach to a lever that pulls towards the driver's side to open the latch. Sometimes you may need to take off the grill (if able to with the hood closed), and then you can get to the latch with your hand.

Nissan quest dead battery - keys locked in van - get hood open

you need too get some sort of hook on the end of a handle, something smaller but still strong enough to pull against with out bending or breaking. then standing at the front of the van using a flashlight look through the grill until you find the hood latch, then locate the black cable running into the side of the latch hook on to it and pull as hard as you can while simultaneously bouncing pressure on the font center area of the hood with your other hand until you hear/feel the hood latch release or "pop"!

  1. Have an assistant hold the hood in the up position. Remove the hood support and remove the hinge-to-hood bolts.
  2. Remove the hood from the vehicle.

To install:
  1. Position the hood against the hinges, using the marks made previously on the hood to help with alignment.
  2. Have an assistant hold the hood. Install the hinge-to-hood bolts, the hood support and the hood support bolts. If so equipped, install the washer hose.
  3. Tighten all bolts securely and check the hood for proper alignment.

ALIGNMENT

Hood
The hood is provided with up-and-down and side-to-side adjustments.

  1. To make the side-to-side adjustments:
    1. Loosen the hood attaching bolts and move the hood to the proper position, then tighten the attaching bolts.
    2. Repeat the procedure if necessary.

  2. To make the up-and-down adjustment (at the rear of the hood):
    1. Loosen the hood stop bolts.
    2. Using a screwdriver, turn the hood stop screws clockwise to lower the hood and counterclockwise to raise the hood. Hood is at the proper height when it is flush with the fenders.
    3. Tighten the hood stop bolts.
    4. Repeat the procedure if necessary.

Hood Latch
See Figure 4
  1. Make sure that the hood is properly aligned.
  2. Remove the hood latch attaching bolts. Move them as necessary to align with the latch dowel. Tighten the attaching bolts.
  3. Remove the locknut on the hood latch dowel, and turn the dowel clockwise to pull the hood tighter and counterclockwise to loosen it. The proper height is when the top of the hood is flush with the fenders.
  4. Tighten the dowel locknut after the proper adjustment has been obtained.

I have a 1994 dodge stealth and i can't get my hood open because the cable is broke. how can i open my hood?

I have had this problem request on a few GM 'S and usually you can reach the cable end of the latch ,under the hood's bottom side,at the center..Use a length of heavy coathanger wire about a foot long and form a hook on one end and a hand hold on the other Now if you can hook into the lever and pull it in the direction that the cable does, you may open the latch. This is if you see well enough and can get to the latch or the wire hooked into the end of the latch. You may have to experiment a bit with the hooks size to use it effectively.I hope this will help!!!
Have a friend hold down on the hood, to help the latch move easier.
Tell him when to let the hood up once you move the latch.

Can anybody tell me how to align the hood latch on a 2001 f150? should the "hook" on the latch be centered on the striker bar that is attached to the hood itself?

leave the striker plate loose(ish) when you lower the hood and it will self align....if you are lucky,it will do it first time.....

I drive a 1991 Buick Park Avenue and I can't get the hood to open on my car. It overheated yesterday and I need to pop the hood to see the problem, but the hood won't come up. I tried the release lever...

I would have someone hold the hood release latch while bumping the front of the hood to try to bump the hood loose. Once opened, be sure to lubricate the hood latch under the hood and also lubericate the safety latch as well to prevent this in the future. Use white lithium grease to lube all latches. Be sure to work the latch a couple dozen times after lubricating a few times before closing the hood to ensure it is working properly.

Front damage, inside cable to open hood snapped from latch. latch damaged and can't open hood. Know of any way to pop the hood? 1991 park avenue

Usually a strong coat hanger will snag the lug the cable attaches too. You will need to bend a 3/8 end J hook from the coat hanger and snag it from the drivers side of the latch to pull on this lug horizontally
' If the hood is trashed just zip a hole into the hood were that latch is located with a disc grinder and a cut off wheel instead

Replacing a hood wire

you will need some simple tools a set of metric sockets and a few screwdrivers remove the trim at the hood release lever, disconnect the cable there and then go under the hood and you should see the cable on the drivers side routed along the fender if not you may need to remove the drivers side wheel and the plastic wheel well liner, either way find how the cable is routed and pull it out from the passenger compartment thru the firewall and up to the hood latch, then you will see how it hooks into the hood latch and remove it from there. Make sure to take a screwdriver and pull the arm in the hood latch where the cable hooks in to verify that it moves back and forth freely and is not stuck, if it is you may need to remove the latch and clean and lube it until it is free or you can also buy a new latch i prefer to fix things as it saves everyone money ;) hope this helps and good luck -jeff
