Is the car rusty? You might have a hole hear the top of the neck / tank.

My 2004 hyundai santa fe has its check engine light on when i run it for codes p0443 comes up how do i get this to clear

Hi Amy,

My Dad's Santa Fe had a similar issue. It was correctly determined that the filler tube (between the gas cap and the tank itself) had begun to rot through. This is because of the way the metal tube passes through the wheel well to bring gas from the filler opening to the tank. Dirt becomes trapped (and builds up) between the tube and wall of the wheel well. When wet, it takes a long time to dry out and is a sponge for moisture. He first noticed an occasional whiff of gasoline when filling the tank (not all that unusual really) and then later, as the holes got larger - drops of gasoline appeared on the ground when filling the tank. If there's a lot of dirt wedged in there - you may not see gasoline leaking onto the ground though, so don't think if you don't see the gasoline - it's not rotted.

Santa Fe Fuel Filler Tube

The cost of the repair at the Hyundai Dealership was about $300. You might also want to visit the dealer to have them inspect your Santa Fe's "subframe" for rust / rot. My dad's Santa Fe had issues and this $2600 replacement was covered by the factory even though the car had been out of warranty for many years.

Let me know how you make out - I hope this helps & good luck!

Gas spills back out and pump shuts off when trying to pump gas

Tank vent pipe is blocked, causing pressure that can only vent via the filler neck. You will find that the pipe is caked in mud. Locate the pipe (it's like a snorkel on the tank near the filler neck) and insert a straightened paperclip into the hole to remove the mud.

Alternatively, fill slower with the gun nozzle slightly at a twist in the filler neck.
But you almost certainly have a blocked tank vent pipe.

What is the outcome of having a broken gas filler neckon my 2001 caravan

Other than spilling gas on the ground when you are filling up, the check engine light should come on because the system is not sealed.

I have a 2002 Chevy blazer and it has a problem filling up the tank. It acts like it is full even when it is empty. What do i do to fix this

the vent tube in the filler neck is either plugged or disconnected, remove the filler neck to check it, lack of ventilation causes the gas to foam in the filler neck and triggers the filling nozzle

Dodge dakota 2005 -check engine light(gas cap)gas cap was replaced.Fuel spills out when filling tank.Fuel lines were smoked and no clog was found.

There is a check valve in the filler hose to stop fuel from coming out seems yours might be stuck , run a metal coat hangers inside the filler neck while prying open the little fill flap. see if that helps OR you are not or have no VENT to AIR in your evap system causing excessive tank pressure.

I have a hard time starting my 04 Santa Fe after i fill up

it was running then you removed the gas cap to fill ( extremely dangerous practice with car running)
that indicates that there is a problem with the EVAP system.
run the fault codes ( what the dealers should have done first ) and check for the EVAP codes , purge vent or solenoid problems

I have a 2003 sante fe that has died with a full gas tank. I have tried syphoning the gas out but it appears there is something blocking the syphon hose from going all the way into the tank. any...

there is a roll over ball blocking you if your vehicle was to roll over there is a ball that will close off filler neck trapping fuel for safety purposes under vehicle follow the filler neck down to tank beside the big filler neck hose should be a smaller hose remove that hose from tank and insert your syphon hose there this should work for you i assume you have determined that the uel pump is your problem and are trying to access the pump??

Gas Leaking

There is likely a rust hole, or puncture in the neck of the gas tank (the pipe leading from the tank to the gas nozzle). When you are filling the tank the gas runs through the pipe and leaks out of the neck. when you are done filling, all the gas is in the tank, and not high enough to come out of the hole. You can probably pull the cover off the inside of the wheel well, and see the leak. if your lucky, you will be able to patch the hole.

It is the filler neck it causes splash back.
