You must first unplug it and look inside the shredding blades, especially around the spot usually near the center, where there is a pressure button. When paper hits it, it starts shredding. Chances are some pieces of paper have jammed just over it stopping paper from hitting it and switching it on. I have had to use long tweezers to work the jammed bits out... Once clear it will work again. Also using shredder oil every 50 sheets through will help it cut easier , and jam less frequently. Do not put too many sheets through together in a bunch. No staples...

They can but economically depends on the value of the unit and the make and also if the parts are avalible to buy. Normally the gears can be replaced by buying kits offline. The gears are normally attached using a Cir-clip round ring holder or a split pin, should be straight forward repair.

Many shredders will jam up with pieces of the shredded bits sticking inside. If it gets near the trigger mechanism that is pushed inside so that it can be pushed, it STOPS! Unplug it, use tweezers and gently but consistently try to pull out all the remnants. If you get it all out, and it can take a while, it should start up again. In the future oil the machine with the special oil they make for shredders sold where you bought the shredder... and only shred a few pieces at a time. Go backwards only to UNJAM. If it is jamming you have to fat a load of paper going through.....GOOD LUCK!

Tried to feed to much (thickness) through ... I have done this in the past but was able to remove jammed paper by going forward and back until jam was cleared ... this time however it seems the motor just...

This is the most common problem...people put TOO MUCH paper in shredders... the VF880 has plastic gears inside...having done this a number of times you may have broken the gears or stripped the "teeth" off the it up to see what damage has been done; once you know what is broken you can contact Royal for pricing and parts at 1-800-524-0799.

shredcare is the worst company ever. they sell crappy merchandise and then when it breaks, they dont sell replacement parts. My machine was out of warranty and the motor spindle sheered the teeth from the 1st cog wheel. this is probably an $0.11 part, but shredcare says my only option is to just buy a whole new unit and send this one off to the land fill, even though its so easily repaired.

i will never do business with shredcare again, and recommend everyone else stay away from them as well.

Well, despite the manufacters warning label I choose to take the shredder apart and found that one of the plastic gears was broken. Hence the motor runs, but the blades do not turn. The thing I didn't understand, the there are metal gears and plasic gears...I can only imagine that the plastic gears at one point or another are going to give. I would suggest not to void the manufacters warrenty, take the shredder back, and get one that is built a little stronger. Hope that helps.

your blades have either become dull or have spread due to a jam or a broken mount on cutter if your in warranty contact manufacturer if not time to buy a new machine.
